I replaced the battery in both of my remotes using CR 2032 Lithium I purchased at my local Radio Shack, using the instructions provided in the Jaguar's owners manual. No big thing.

I replaced the battery in the fob for my 2009 XKR with no problems. Athough the XJ fob is a different design, they both work the same way. Just make sure that the new CR2032 goes in exactly the same way as the old one came out. No programming required. See the Owners Handbook for details as to how to take the fob apart. Buy a pair of new batteries from your local drug store and check the expiration date. Keep the extra battery in your glove box as a spare. And never buy batteries from no-name vendors on the internet - there are lots of cheap Chinese fake li-ion batteries that are fire hazards. Just ask a pilot.
