Key Fob Problem or Flat Battery

Key Fob Problem or Flat Battery
My car doesn't open using the key fob. I thought this may be due to a flat/low car battery. I've used the emergency key in the fob to open the passenger door. This works but the alarm goes off. I then placed a charger on the 12v connectors in the engine bay to try and open the boot, but this didn't work either by pressing the boot open on the fob or the boot release in the cabin. As the alarm is going off is the car battery flat or is this a problem with the fob? I only have one fob and have replaced the battery in that. I'm not sure to proceed now...is there any way to check if the fob is working?

No your in the right place. Just making sure. You do need to get another FOB/key don't keep running with only one key it will turn ugly.
With the age of your car I would consider getting 2 new FOB/Keys and getting them programmed to the car.
The FOB's are a wear item and the buttons can be replaced but with the cost and effort involved I would just get 2 new ones and go from there.
I mean we are only talking less than $20 each for a brand new FOB/Key. Note the emergency key is blank and needs to be cut to match your car. Since you have one FOB/key already you could swap the existing metal emergency key into the new FOB/key. So you would only need to get one emergency key cut.

Well I have done at least 6 cars using the cheap chinese keys and all of them are still working. Remember Jaguar has zero interest in saving you money on repairing your Jaguar. You should be buying new cars and stop repairing these old models.
Yes you will need SDD or something of that level. I use SDD exclusively and still find it complicated and confusing. My local dealer has cut the Tibbe key when I provide proof of ownership of the car. I have been told that lock smiths can cut these but I have not been able to find one locally.
You will spend hundreds of dollars (or more) trying to get 2 keys/FOBs from the dealer. IF they will even try?
This is just too much money and EXACTLY why I spent all the time needed to learn SDD. The cost is pretty low because you can get a clone cable for under $100 and the software is free. BUT the learning curve was steep for me!
ChaosphereIX do you know how to operate SDD or are your techs telling you this information?
What is the cost to purchase two keys/FOBs then get them cut and programmed at your dealership?
