Looking for advice....
Hello all.
I wanted to get your guys' opinion on what to do. I have decided that I want a luxury car that has power. I originally was looking at 2013's 750 LIs. Then I started looking at the XJ L supercharged. I really like the XJ and there aren't near as many around. From what I can find they 2011 XJ and 2013 750 are roughly the same price. I'd love to be able to afford the 2013 XJ, but my wife would kill me if I spent that much on a car.
What is your opinion of the 2011s? There is one about 100 miles from where I live with 52k miles on it, it's a one owner that is super clean. What should I look for..is the performance that much different between the 2011 and 2013?
Any advice is much appreciated. The XJ's are so sharp and eye catching, I am really leaning that way.
Thanks!

We just bought an 2011 XJ and have had the BMW 750 in the past, both great cars, so it really depends on what you want. For me the BMW has to much tech and not enuf class, the Jag is pure class there is just nothing like it.
Pretty much everyone on here will tell you to get the Jag hands down, but do just take our work for it, watch this and keep in mind that the 2011 Jag - current are the same car with just a few updates along the way .....

the Jag is just an amazing vehicle. I would prefer that over the 750, I've had 2, best car ever.
there werent any major issues for 2011 models from what I recall. the infotainment system was slow as hell. there was a lot of roof popping issues, sometimes the sunroof would shatter.
no performance difference between 2011 and 2013 if they are the NA 5.0L. if its an AWD model, it comes with a 3L supercharged V6. Naturally the supercharged models have more power

Sounds like it's a beast of a car, with few people having buyers remorse. Interior wise, what is the difference between the 2011 and 2013? Is the dash screen any different? I read the thread about replacing the nav unit with a new unit. Seems like that fixes that slowness and sub-par resolution. The review videos I watched, it seems like they kind of dogged the gauge screens. Thoughts?

abs777, I have a 2012 XJ, so, I am right in the middle of your year range. I would first start by asking you how much power you really need. I have the NA 5.0L engine with 385 hp. It will definitely do what you need. I know the supercharged engine will be just a little quicker and a bit more fun to drive. But, for the added cost, are you going to get that back? That is something for you to answer. Also note that the 2013 has 2 supercharged engines, the 5.0L (V8) engine and the 3.0L (V6) engine. The 3.0L engine is what you will find behind every AWD vehicle with a respectable 340 hp. The 5.0L engine has 2 options, a 510 hp version and the 470 hp version. The higher the trim inside, the more likely you are to get the 510 hp version. But, this also means that you are going to be spending that much more. I managed to pay $41K for my 2012 a year ago with 33K on the ODO.
As for interior changes over the years, the big thing that you are going to hear is that as the years have gone on, the options became fewer and fewer. So, if you are after something that is different than most other cars, the 2011 is more likely to have that.
As for the instrument cluster, I like it. You have to get in to it a little bit as you have a few options for setting it up (different views with how the dials show you the numbers). Also, when you put the car into dynamic mode (ie, manual shifting), the instrument cluster moves the tach to the center and the speedo off to the right side. It also turns the instrument cluster red (instead of the normal blue).
The other interior feature that I would tell you to look for is the tray tables and other rear seat functions. If you have people in the back of your car all the time, this will be a good thing to have. If you are more like me and don't really have people back there except for once or twice a year, then you might be able to save some money that way. With the 2013's, getting the rear tray tables and other nicities became harder to find.

I've been totally happy with my 2011 - have never had the roof popping issue that you hear so much about. It tripped 50,000 miles last week. When I purchased mine used I chose it over a similarly priced 2013 because I really, really wanted the wood tables in the back, although they are never used. After many years of owning a Rolls-Royce Silver Spur, the front seat-backs just looked naked without the tables! It is a pleasure to drive and has more power than I'll ever need.

The 2013 has softer suspension because Jaguar received many complaints of 'rough ride' on earlier cars. I test drove the 2011 and found the ride a bit firm i.e. sporty but not too bad. Also the '13 has stop/start which annoys a lot of people. Both cars have lousy turning radius.
I say stick with the '11 SWB Supercharged.

Wolfy, the car will turn on a dime. You simply turn off traction control, crank the wheel and give it a fair amount of gas. The one front wheel will not even turn as the rear tires make some fun noises. LMAO. Weeeeeeeeee.
In all honesty, yes the car has a little wider turning radius that a lot of vehicles out there. But, I don't find it all that bad. Once you get used to it, nothing that you can't overcome. Maybe I am used to driving large trucks and other full size vehicles.

I see nothing wrong with the turning radius on my XJL but I learned to drive on a 1973 Lincoln so vehicle size doesn't daunt me. Actually, my Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn Edition with its crew cab has a relatively good turning radius also, so size isn't always the main factor. The worst turning radius I've ever had, bar none, was on a 1999 Chevy S-10 extended cab pickup I bought new. It was a small truck, but handled like it was huge... extremely difficult to park.

My wife and I went and looked at a 2013 XJL V6 this weekend. It was awesome, the inside is so classy looking. My question is what is the difference between the 2011 and 2013 interior? From I could tell there wasn't much. Also, is the dash screen any different between the two years?
Should I avoid ones with 65,000+ miles? What is a good price for a 2011 supercharged with 40-50k miles?
Thanks guys!!!

Other things to note between the '11's and '13's: 11's have hydraulic steering while the 13's have electric steering with less feel, 13's have stop/start which drives me CRAZY, and it spells out "JAGUAR" under the leaper on the trunk, and the '13's have an 8-speed trans instead of the 6-speed in the '11's. Ironically enough, the acceleration times and fuel economy numbers between the two are identical even with different transmissions. But that's about it.
If I were you, go for a Supercharged '11. The power is significantly more than even the NA V8 and they hold their value much better than the NA V8 or the supercharged V6 models. I have 62K miles on mine and it runs/feels/drives just as it did when it had way less miles. The powertrains in these things are very reliable.

If you're going to go Jag, you've got to go FULL JAG!!! Get the Supercharged V8, man. Interior differences between the '11's and '13's are minimal: tray tables became optional in '13 instead of standard, the interior door handles got redesigned (important, I know!), and the touchscreen was updated. The TFT display behind the steering wheel remained unchanged until 2016. The touchscreen is better in '13 than in '11, but honestly it shouldn't be a deal-breaker. Oh, and the '13's have different stereo options.

I would not say that the Supercarged or L car hold their value better its quite the opposite. You can get a used 2011 regular XJ, a Supercharged XJ or a XJL all the with similar miles for within a few $1000 of each other. We had a harder time finding a regular XJ in a color combo we wanted.
Look at what the sold for and know that you can now buy all of them with in a few $1000 of each other, the Supercharged XJ and XJL have dropped the most in value. This is the same with any car brand with added options.
- The base short XJ with a direct-injection 385-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 starts at $72,500.
- The XJ Supercharged uses forced air to attain 470 hp and costs an additional $15,000.
- The base XJL starts at $79,500 and is expected to be the volume player in the U.S., with about half the sales.
- The XJL Supercharged is $90,500.
They are ALL great cars, buy what you like and what works best for you, then enjoy the drive !

Id say in the high 20's to low 30's. Its very ez to tell, just go to Auto Trader, Cars.com and so on... Do a nation wide search to see. We live in San Diego but bought our car in FL as it was a great deal, low mile, well cared for car in the color combo we wanted. 5 days and $800 later it was at our door.

i believe 2011 was the first year for the X351's. they had their fair share of "first year bugs" that got sorted out (sunroof popping, infotainment system, watercooler pump). i wouldnt let that scare you though.
I used to have a 2012 and a 2015. so i can tell you the EXACT differences between the 2. as mentioned above, the steering changed from hydrolic to electric, which is actually a nice change, it feels really good. the transmission feels sluggish with the 8 gears. the infotainment system speed improved a bit. the auto/stop start is ANNOYING AS HELL!!!
but other than that the cars are more or less identical.

abs777, modern day cars are designed to go 300K miles. So, the difference between a 30K mile car and a 60K one is 10% of its life. Small change as I see it. Besides, I think you will like the ride and if you are not sure what you truely want, then you can get the cheaper car, figure out what you like and don't like and then when know what you want, you can spend the higher money and get exactly what you want with no worries.
