Mechanic handbook or manual available?
Hello all.
Does anyone know of or heard of any book or manual or PDF or whatever that explains how to take the car apart and put back together? I think this is the type of manual that the techs and mechs get for repair work.
Reason why I ask is I am just sick and tired of having to have the dealership fix my moonroof cloth panels that have a tendency to come off the guide rails about twice a year. I have noticed that when the car sits for 2 weeks or longer (because I went out of town) all the electronic gizmo's that have motors (front/back moon roof cloth pieces, rear windshield sun curtain, headlamp washer nozzels) all seem to go completely wonky at startup. The rear sun curtain won't go up until I have pressed the button at LEAST 20 times. The moon roof cloth pieces will roll out of the way exposing the glass but will then fall off the guide rails and won't close again, headlamp washer nozzels won't come up OR will stay in the UP position. This process happens every single time the car sits for 2 weeks or longer without fail like clockwork.
It's gotten to the point that when I come back from a trip I know that I will have to take the car to get all these things fixed again. And again. And again. And again......
I am mechanically inclined and have come to the conclusion that I will just have to learn how to fix these small little things by myself when they happen every 6 months and a tech manual would be extremely helpful in knowing how to take the trim off or the headliner off or take the dash out so I can finally fix that damn rattle that has been annoying me since the beginning of the year. Anyone else experience this one?
When I am out of town I have someone housesit to look after my pets and what not. I am now going to have to add that my house sitter actually drive my XJL while I am out of town just to keep it working. Crazy. But true.
Thanks all in advance for your help.

Good point! Didn't even think of that. Will check out the battery next I'm in the garage. Battery maintainer sounds like it would be a good idea to try it. Even if it was just an experiment. Would love to come back home without having to take the car in every single time! Thanks mate.

+1 on Topix for Workshop Manual and other vehicle specific information.
Check the voltage across the battery terminals with a voltmeter after the ignition has been in the OFF position for ten or more minutes. If it shows less than 12.6 volts, try charging the battery overnight with the terminals removed, then retest it the next day. If it still shows less than 12.6 volts, the battery should be replaced regardless of age.

Mark SF;
The manual is 7660 pages. It does not have a table of contents, but has a search feature. I searched for "Jacking Points" but it got no matches. I scrolled through the manual. It has many maintenance and overhaul procedures. Illustrations are good, but there are a lot of boxes where an illustration was not added and the box is blank. I ran a second search for "Jacking Procedures" and still found no match. The manual has a set of wiring diagrams. The manual reminds me of the Jaguar Heritage Service Manual that I bought for the X350 as far as layout, information, etc. You may want to find a service manual rather than a repair manual. You are not alone, in that I am going to look for a service manual to use in conjunction with this.
