Meridian Surround Retrofit on a Meridian X351 XJ
#21
well a bit of closure here.
I drove quite a bit now in the car, and I'm pretty happy with the "normal" Meridian soundsystem - which is what I have.
It is highly source dependent - since I plugged in my iPhone with Spotify music downloaded on the extreme quality, the sound is rich, crisp and powerfull.
Radio is so so, but then again, I hardly listen to it.
So unless I get to stumble on an amp bargain, I will keep the system I have

Greetings! Quick question. I have a 2013 Jaguar XJL with the 825W surround sound system. My car is already programmed with the option of the 3 different surround sound modes. I'm looking to upgrade to the 1300W amp and purchase 4 additional speakers (2 tweeters and 2 midrange ). Would I still need to have a dealer access the CCF? Shouldn't the 1300W amp immediately since I can already access the surround sound options...? I'm thinking that this should be a plug and play situation. Anyone have any info? Thanks.

Thanks man. Do these amps have additional inputs for connecting additional speakers or would I have to splice them in with the existing speaker wires that are connected to the amp? Also any recommendations on speaker placement...? I'd like them to be concealed and hidden just as the existing speakers are.

C2Z29300 is the part# for the 1300W amp. This is the one that I'm planning to upgrade to. Given this info, do you think that I'll still need programming from the dealer...? I'm thinking that it'll work without dealer programming since I'm already able to access the surround menu options.

Hey Cambo. If I already have the 825W surround sound system and wanted to upgrade to the 1300W amp, would that amp still require dealer programming...? I can already access the surround menu with my 825W amp.

In the US markets, there's 3 different types of 380W (11 speakers), 825W Surround sound (20 speakers), 1300W Signature Surround sound (26 speakers). https://www.meridian-audio.com/en/in...dio/jaguar/xj/

If we talk about 1200W (OK as you wrote 1300W) the amplifier that you indicating C2Z29300 the same (installing in XE, F-Type and XF X250 with 825W Meridian Surround Sound System) as I wrote you in previous post with PN: C2D40031 (Installed in X250 with 825W and in XJ from V39427 with 825W high line sound system and 1200W premium sound system) technically by hardware these amplifiers are the same!
So as for me, you just connecting new speakers, solving wiring (if its necessary) and thats all.

Okay. Thanks for the information. I'll look for those speakers.

The seat-back speakers are three separate speakers per seat.
This drawing is from a Range Rover, but it's the same thing in the XJ.
Two mid range speakers, plus a tweeter, in each seat back.
To make a seamless installation you would also need to get the seat back trim panels with the speaker grill in them. There are different versions depending on the colour of the interior, if you have business trays, and which logo/branding Meridian or Bowers & Wilkins. Buying these trim pieces will not be cheap.
The midrange speaker is LR033290/C2D24860/CPLA-18808-EA
The tweeter is C2D30486/LR033292/CPLA-18808-HA
You also need a wiring harness for the seat to connect the speakers, the p/n for the harness is C2D34758 or EW93-14A516-CB

wiring for backrest speakers
amplifier housing connector for backrest speakers
also don't forget found or order speakers molding for each seat: C2D42850
The main problem is the grill for backrest speakers, they are sells only with front seat back cover

That diagram is only the wiring for the speakers in the seat backs in the 1300W Meridian.
Apart from those speakers in the seats the rest of the wiring in the 1300W system is the same as the 825W system...
And apart from the center dash speaker and the surround speakers on the parcel shelf, the wiring of the 825W system is the same as the 380W system.
What exactly do you need to see?

There is a 3rd connector on that amp for the speaker outputs.
The naming of these different systems also changed which adds some more confusion.
In the past it was called "Meridian Reference" in the XJ, and in the Range Rover it was "Meridian Signature Reference"
But now they call it "Meridian Signature Surround" in the XJ.
The Reference/Signature was only an option in the LWB XJ, so the wiring for the seat back speakers is not there at all in a SWB car.
The amp was only used in the XJ and L405 with the "Signature" system so finding these amps 2nd hand is not easy, and the new price is typically outrageous like $2000 or more...
The rest of the connections on the "Signature" amp are the same, just the additional connector for those seat-back speakers in the XJ, and in the Range Rover the additional roof speakers are in that connector as well.
