Meridian Surround Retrofit on a Meridian X351 XJ
#41
Okay. I thought there was some difference. I'm slowly starting to put the pieces together from all of the information that I've received from this forum. However, I've seen the CONNECTORS from the 1300W amp and I recall them matching my 825W amp below. I'm not 100% sure though. I'm thinking that there's a difference in how they're WIRED due to the additional speakers with Reference/Signature system. Something is definitely slightly different though.
Here's what I've experimented with so far:
If you disconnect the GREEN connector in the 825W amp shown above, the radio will not work. As such, I'm assuming that that powers the amplifier.
If you disconnect the BLUE connector below the green one, all speakers still work, but not very loud.
If you disconnect the GRAY connector below the blue one, the same happens. All speakers work, but not very loud. So the gray and blue connectors contain the wires that actually run from the amp to the speakers, however I dont have a diagram that shows which specific wires, run to each specific speaker in the cabin. My plan was to splice from those wires (the gray and blue connector wires) and add additional speakers from the splice. Then do the same on the other side, thus adding 6 additional speakers. 3 and 3. I just dont know which wires to splice. Unless there's a better way to do this...

The Blue and Grey connectors have the speaker outputs.
That green connector with the two wires is a Digital signal.
The Reference amp has a third speaker connector on it, which goes to the seat back speakers. (In the Range Rovers there are also additional speakers in the roof on that connector)
The other thing is that there is a software change for the Reference system, which also enables the 3D Surround function.
We're looking into enabling this setting with the existing 1200W/825W amp to see what happens.

I spent some more time going through the parts catalogue, there are a couple of other differences between the 825W Meridian Surround and the 1300W Meridian Signature Surround (noted from VIN V58603 onward)
The rear door bass speakers are different in the Signature, p/n C2D24863 or EW93-18808-AA, the rest of the speakers are the same as the 825W Meridian Surround.
The subwoofer assembly on the rear parcel shelf has a different part number in the 1300W Signature system, p/n C2D24864 vs. the regular one C2D3059.
I guess the rear door bass speakers could make quite a difference. In fact the front door bass speakers are different between the 380W and the 825W Meridian systems, so i guess in the Signature/Reference a rear door bass speaker of similar quality to the front door ones were installed.
Not 100% sure what the difference in the subwoofers is but looking at the 380W system it shows the standard subwoofer speakers are the same units as what's in the rear doors. So it makes sense to me that these special rear door bass speakers in the Signature/Reference are also used in the subwoofer assembly.
Some other things which are a bit odd...
You see this picture with the MERIDIAN REFERENCE badge, and the speaker cone looks red in colour?
That would have to be a front door midrange speaker (as it is not a coaxial with a tweeter in the middle, like the rear door ones) but there is no special front door midrange speaker listed for the Reference/Signature system.
Also the badge... I cannot find this. I suspect something has changed in the product offering since Jag does not call it Reference in the marketing literature anymore. The only badges are Meridian Surround, although there are two versions listed with different VIN ranges.

Cameron, as I wrote you before, the difference in material and diameter of speakers. On Signature Sound System the backrest speakers and midranges in front doors have 80mm and made by Kevlar and colored in red (pink) color. The Bass speakers in front door are 165mm in rear 200mm and also made by Kevlar, but colored in black. The tweeters are the same as on 825W system.
I've also found some other speaker part numbers which look to be related to the Reference system but again, not shown in the JEPC.
So I am not 100% which part number for which speaker...

So for sure the subwoofers on the rear deck are the same as the bass speakers in the rear doors, so those "specials" from the Reference would be used in the same way.

This amplifier for installing with B&W Surround System and the same for Meridian Surround Sound System. 825W in XF, 770W in F-Type
You need to find this AUD-24 amplifier not AUD-16 as on your photos.

Thanks. That amp is listed on eBay. I asked the seller to take a picture of the connecter. It DOESN'T have that additional speaker connecter for the 2 rear seat speakers, as shown in an earlier post. I was thinking that it was the 1300W, but not seeing that additional connector threw me off a little. Thanks for the clarification.

Cambo, Quick question, are the pinouts on the AUD3-12 and AUD-16 the same for XF and XJ's? Especially for the bass speakers in the front and rear doors, because I bought an AMP off or ebay AW93-19C164-BR and I don't get any sound in the Bass speakers. I've already configured the CFF file to support Premium Surround Sound, which I can tell the difference in the sounds but no sounds from the bass. I'm wondering if the wiring plugs are different for XJ vs XF's. I have an XF. So either the Amp I bought is bad or that the pinouts from the wiring harness needs to be changed.
