Meridian Surround Retrofit on a Meridian X351 XJ
#61
Thanks for the confirmation. I'm thinking I got a bad amp as they said it was out of a XJ. Can you go through the process of how to update the amp? Do you need to configure the ccf file to put in AUD3 or AUD4? There currently is nothing set in that setting. I went through that process before and I think it automatically finds the right amp software if I am correct, even without changing that setting am I correct? I did manage to bungle up one amp already so I am afraid to try to update the amps software. In the subwoofer section I have used the setting for subwoofer integrated premium sound system instead of stand alone subwoofer. Do I even need to select those?

what is the impedance (2 ohm or 4ohm) of the
1. C2D24860 (midrange 80mm size)
2. C2D24863 (base 165mm)
thanks

I spent some more time going through the parts catalogue, there are a couple of other differences between the 825W Meridian Surround and the 1300W Meridian Signature Surround (noted from VIN V58603 onward)
The rear door bass speakers are different in the Signature, p/n C2D24863 or EW93-18808-AA, the rest of the speakers are the same as the 825W Meridian Surround.
The subwoofer assembly on the rear parcel shelf has a different part number in the 1300W Signature system, p/n C2D24864 vs. the regular one C2D3059.
I guess the rear door bass speakers could make quite a difference. In fact the front door bass speakers are different between the 380W and the 825W Meridian systems, so i guess in the Signature/Reference a rear door bass speaker of similar quality to the front door ones were installed.
Not 100% sure what the difference in the subwoofers is but looking at the 380W system it shows the standard subwoofer speakers are the same units as what's in the rear doors. So it makes sense to me that these special rear door bass speakers in the Signature/Reference are also used in the subwoofer assembly.
Some other things which are a bit odd...
You see this picture with the MERIDIAN REFERENCE badge, and the speaker cone looks red in colour?
That would have to be a front door midrange speaker (as it is not a coaxial with a tweeter in the middle, like the rear door ones) but there is no special front door midrange speaker listed for the Reference/Signature system.
Also the badge... I cannot find this. I suspect something has changed in the product offering since Jag does not call it Reference in the marketing literature anymore. The only badges are Meridian Surround, although there are two versions listed with different VIN ranges.

Don't know on those part numbers but Jaguar did change from 2 to 4 ohm ratings between the regular and reference systems. When I replaced all the woofers in my 2014 XJR with the reference speakers they were all 2 ohm compared to 4 ohm for the originals. I don't have any problems and the stock amp drives everything fine too.
But I did see the difference and wondered if I had made a mistake?

@clubairth1 I think the rating of 2ohm is based on the more speakers driven by same amplifier somehow. But I know from home audio, bigger ohm, better quality from the speakers and easier for the amplifier to drive. Normally if the drivers are bigger than rated, should not be an issue for the amplifier, but it would be if less ohms/impedance.
@kamranki if you are asking for 2015 XJ, I think the badges "Meridian" with nothing else written, is the base. Then Meridian Surround is the 825W version and the one with red/pink drivers and Meridian Reference/Signature written on labels is the bigger system, available only on long version (LWB).
You can also check between base and Surround in the audio settings if you have option to enable surround option or the only thing you have is stereo system.

You are right. The labels simply say "Meridian" and nothing else. I am surprised that the system still sounds so nice even though its 'only' around 400 watts.

I am surprised of mine too. However, I already got the 16-PRE amplifier already and I will see if it will do something plug and play, even if the surround will not work and speakers are missing. But if it will just feed stereo the speakers like the original one and eventually if the internals will provide even better sound. Anyway, I see, the parts used in the XJ are among the best of JLR ever used, so even from this point of view, this car is a statement.

Long story short, at facelift model, the amplifier changed so the one I got is useless. NOTE this change eventually if anyone can update the first post that the amplifier is having even different cabling between pre and post facelift. I've sold it already the one I got and sourcing new one.
The question now is that if the trunk parcel from base audio will have the cables for premium audio or not in there.
