Meridian vs. Bowers & Wilkins

Thanks for the reply ABrice! I have not received my 200mm speakers yet. Yes some mods will be required too!
I went back to my EBay watch list and found what I now think is a miss-labeled auction?
They list these for the rear doors but I don't see how they could be with what we know now?
Speaker
So I was wrong and no XJ has ever had 200mm speakers installed in the rear doors. Which is a bit odd as many RR's do have them.
Another thought? Install the upgraded 4 ohm 200mm speakers in the front doors and leave the stock 165mm in the rear and add a 2 ohm resistor to balance the load front and rear?
EDIT: I contacted the EBay seller directly and he claims that 200mm speaker came out of the rear door that he is also selling but looking at the door panel I just don't see how it would fit?

I can see what you mean about making the 200mm’s fit the rear. The rear speaker positions have a different shape and they’re smaller. It will be close. I’m willing to trim to the water shield and/or the inner portion of the door card if I have to. That part will not be showing anyway. It’ll definitely take some creativity. An audio specialist might be able to provide a crafty solution. I suppose they solve problems like this every day.

Hey Abrice, I pulled my door skin off tonight and attached some high res photos of what the 165mm speaker and mounting looks like. I think it's almost impossible to make the 200 fit. Within the door itself, the speaker kind of protrudes into the arm rest area and in order to shove the 200 in, you'd have to cut into the actual leather door skin itself.
I've also done some researching around and found almost no positive comments regarding Supertweaks. I'm a little concerned that I'll never see my order. I found a reputable site online that it seems they took their listing from, and they still are selling the four pack, albeit with a higher shipping cost. I'm considering requesting cancellation or doing a charge back on my card and going to the other company. Maybe we could do a split of a four pack and upgrade the two front speakers with the ultra premiums?

I’ve been in communication with Supertweaks; they’ve responded promptly. I haven’t found a reason to be concerned yet. They don’t ship to FPO addresses. Consequently, my package was returned back to them. They reached out and asked for a physical address, and stated they will re-ship the item. I guess we’ll see. Well, I may have two extra 200mm’s if there’s no way to make them fit. Let me know what you wanna do.

That’s good to know! About how long did it take for them to ship the speakers, and did you get a tracking number of any sort?
It’s a shame you can’t put the 200’s in the back. I measured it out and you JUST might, but it would require a lot of hacking and modifying and it would be millimeters tolerance with the actual door skin.
It’s actually a testament to the design of these cars. So many others I’ve dealt with or have seen on YouTube doesn’t have anything like this water guard. The gasket nearly 10 years later still gives a perfect seal on the door. There’s little to no vibrations. Everything has a place and is rock solid.
What I’ve noticed with my default 600W system is the cardboard cone on the end of these 200’s seem to be a weak point; or at least were at some point during manufactured life. I’m really excited to get these in hopes that I’ll stop blowing the passenger speaker.
With the door skin already off, do you have any plans to do any soundproofing? That was this weekends project, I’ve noticed a really nice increase in tone and quietness in the car, and it wasn’t even that hard to do. If we’re changing everything else, might as well take it all the way!

After reading your post above, I’m probably gonna just order the 165mm super premium speakers, as it seems extremely close. I have no clue of what the specs are for that speaker though. Hopefully, they are 4 ohms. I’ll do some digging. Yes. I plan to do sound proofing as well. It should be a fun project!
Wow. You’re blowing your passenger door speakers!? Geez. Blasting the music on high volumes or poorly constructed speakers?

Just chiming in here and think that not only is the speaker smaller in the rear door but also the volume of the "enclosure" and sonically it is a better match to the larger front door volume. Just my opinion. In any event I still have not received my speakers so ill be reaching out to Supertweaks. When I do receive them I'll also be i n the market to sell a pair of the 200s.
Just got a email from UPS the speakers are on the delivery truck and will be here today.

Great work on everyone's part!
SovietKitsch I just received all 4 of my 200mm speakers. No tracking number or any other communication.
Since I have 4 and only need 2 would you be interested in them?
Then I could follow ABrice's suggestion of upgrading the 165mm rear door units to the Kevlar versions.

@XJsss , would definitely take the two off of you.
I did have a thought though. I believe, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, that the 200mm rear deck speakers are the same as the 200mm front door speakers, just in the rear deck housing. I haven't torn my shelf apart yet to look, but my thinking is that if you used the other two that it might be worth doing and it would balance the car out a bit more.

Glad to see that you guys have received your speakers! That makes me feel good. I wouldn’t wanna suggest a company that turned out to be shady.
Sovietkitsch, the rear parcel shelf speakers are 200mm. They should be the same ones that you just ordered; only a Jaguar P/N. I don’t see much of a benefit in doing that as they are the same speaker; same specs. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt anything, but you’d be basically swapping the same speaker for newer ones.

I posted a link earlier in the thread that shows the cheapest place that I’ve been able to locate them. If you find a cheaper a company, let us know.
