Default Messaging Not Available on iPhone

Hi All,

Been a while and I've been a bit of a shut in since all this crap started in the world but have noticed within the past year whenever I've tried to send a text message when my iPhone has been connected, my XJ (2018) responds Messaging Not Available on iPhone". I tried disconnecting from Apple car play and just connecting to the car, makes no difference. Has anybody else experienced this?

In the past, if I got a text message whilst driving, it would appear on the screen and I'd just touch it, the car would read it to me and ask if I wanted to respond. If I say yes, I would speak my reply, it would then be read back to me and I was told to respond SEND or CANCEL. If I got an idea and wanted to send a text to someone will I was driving, I would touch voice control and say "Send A Message". It would ask who I wanted to send it to then proceed to take my dictation. This no longer happens. Is this something that has been removed by an update or something I need to have my dealer look into? It was handy in certain situations.

Thanks in advance,
Jax

I’m having the exact same problem with my XJ and an iPhone X. Have you resolved it yet?

I did but not a safe or acceptable solution. To do it, you have to be connected to Apple Car Play, go to the main screen, touch MESSAGES then go to your iPhone and open messages on there, then go BACK to the infotainment screen and touch the person you want to message and start speaking. That's hardly an acceptable way to do it. That's far too much distraction to do whilst driving. I've tried unpairing and re pairing the phone-doesn't help. When apple car play connects, it's using my phone which, while paired with the car, is being lost in the shuffle somewhere because there is no internet connection, it's LTE on the infotainment screen, not 4G like normal. I try to join the Jaguar on my phone, it asks for the car's password. I must have set one if it's asking for one, but I don't know where to go to change it as I don't remember what it is.

Are we having fun yet?

P.S. If I press voice command on the steering wheel, even while in the apple car play, the car takes over and the female British voice tells "Handset not connected" even tho it is and it is showing it is on the main Jag Infotainment screen. Something is wonky somewhere along the line.

Mine started working again after I signed back in to my InControl account. But I’ve determined this:
if my phone is connected to Apple CarPlay and I press the voice control button I am advised there is no handset connected. However if I go to the CarPlay screen and press the write message button then from there on I can dictate without problem.
if I am not connected to CarPlay and press the voice control button then I DON’T get the “no handset” message and I’m able to dictate to send a message. But I can only select from a pre-defined list of available messages. I can’t speak my own desires text.
There it is....

I just tried all that and still get the handset not connected. I suss I need to find where to reset the password for my Jag's network connection and change it. When I singed back into my InControl apps, a box popped up asking me to Join the Jaguar and I don't know the password. I'll go check and see on the Jag My Apps or whatever it is website.

Default Messaging Not Available on iPhone.

I searched on every forum on internet and eventually end up fixing this by settings, iMessage, and Clock might be missing from your iPhone. Here's what you can try to fix it:-
1. App Library Check:- While native apps aren't typically deleted accidentally, they might be hidden on your home screen. Swipe all the way left on your home screens until you reach the App Library. Search for the missing app and hold the icon down. You can then choose "Add to Home Screen" to place it back.
2. Restart Your iPhone:- A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches that might be hiding your apps. The restart method depends on your iPhone model.
3. Reset Home Screen Layout:- This will reset the layout of your home screens to the default configuration, potentially revealing any hidden apps. Go to Settings > General > Home Screen Layout and tap "Default Layout."
4. Search with Spotlight:- Swipe down on your home screen or lock screen to open Spotlight search. Try typing the name of the missing app. If it shows up in search results, you can long-press the app icon and choose "Add to Home Screen."
More effective assistance below.
