Mice chewed through wire loom / knock sensor wire
Hey guys, my car went in with a Check Engine Light. They traced it to the knock sensor, reset the computer, and it came back on.
As they were starting to take things apart, they realized that there were mouse droppings under the hood, but no scratches or anything. When they finally got to the knock sensor, the wire was chewed right through. They also noticed a wiring loom had some damage to it.
This is all going to cost about $2500 to fix.
A) Does this seem reasonable?
B) Has anyone had this problem before? If so, how did you prevent it from happening again ? I park the car in the driveway in front of my house, and have never seen a rodent save squirrels.
C) Is this normally covered by comprehensive insurance claims? (I carry a high-limit Mercury policy)
Thanks for any help, advice, or anecdotes you can provide. I'm super pissed off, and worried now about the used 2008 LR2 I just bought!
