It has been renamed the "XJ (X351) 2009 - Onwards" forum to indicate the new body style since the 2012 models have been announced now.

Actually, there was not a 2010 model XJ--that year was skipped since the X351 was announced in July, 2009 but did not start shipping until almost a year later as a 2011 model due to some glitches.

 

Gorgeous car, if we ever do get a second car, it'll be a new XJL...enjoy the ride!

 

I am going on a 1000 mike trip on the 1st of Sept. Doing the WV turnpike again. Going to the University of Virginia from Cincinnati. It is a killer ride! Will report back on this as it is the second time I have done this in the Jag. the first time she was 3 weeks old. Now 11k miles. Will see what MPH we get this time. I will drive it like an F1 car.

 

We just returned from a 2,300 mile trip from Charlotte to upstate New York. From my driveway to my son's driveway, the trip computer showed 28.0 MPG. For the entire trip, the average was 26.5 which include a lot of local driving.

Car drove beautifully and received a lot of stares. One night about 9:00 pm. my son drove it to his girlfriend's house. He was at a stoplight in the left lane. A car in the right lane stopped just behind him. In the mirror he could see that it was the sheriff. He thought "what did I do wrong". The car slowly pulled along side of him. He looked over and the deputy gave him a big thumbs up.

On a bad note, the roof popping has started, but not bad enough yet to make a special trip to the dealer.

 

So I just got home. Love the WV turnpike. All but 26 miles were interstate or turnpike. Got 29.7 on the trip computer 30.1 mpg on paper. I was in the upper 70's most of the way. Also on the way back saw a trunk in the "run away" truck sand trap. Did not see him go in, but not long after. WVSP were not on the wreck yet. Love my XJL!!! Total trip miles 887.

 

Wow. With the SC the best I've done is high 24s. That's a huge difference.

 

With my SC, 4000 miles on the clock, I've seen it average 26-28 at stretches of the highway when I'm on the cruise control, and I'm talking 70-75MPH. But I usually drive past most people on road and a quick stab of the gas will get past them and ease back down to cruise speed, but I can only average out 25 driving like that. When the wife drives it she usually cruises around 65, and uses like 200HP most of the time, she gets even better mileage than me.

Around town I get terrible stuff, usually in the 16 range 'cause I beat everyone from the stop light. Although I don't spin and smoke the tire but I sure as hell uses at least 300+ horses on a regular basis, haha. Paid big money for them, payback time.

 

In my SC I consistantly get 18.5 MPG around town with a mix of freeway/stop-and-go and I have 13,000 miles now. Seems to have improved a little over time. I drive a little on the fast side and don't baby it. On a road trip with almost all interstate I've gotten upwards of 25 with a lot of passing. I'm pretty pleased--I never got over 15 on my Maserati QP.

 

Has anyone lost MPG WITH THE WINTER blend? I have been in Chicago this week and BP say the winter blend in out and I have lost 3 MPG! The performance is still great........

 

Just to add to the fuel consumption chat, I know you do not have the 3.0 diesel twin turbo version over there but I have just got in tonight from a few days to France, on the journey down the distance was about 630 miles, on the French autoroutes I set the cruise at 75mph and then including around Paris where the traffic was heavy and speeds down to as little as 20 mph I actually returned an average speed in excess of 60mph and a fuel consumption of an amazing 38.4 mpg, remember this is UK gallons as well.
On the return trip i set the cruise at 80mph for most of the Autoroute times and also had slow traffic around Paris and then speeds in the Uk part of the trip up to 3 figures at times and still acheived 38 mpg !
I think this is amazing for such a car, the diesel is popular over here as we are paying around $9.25 for a gallon of petrol and $9.50 for a gallon of diesel, so the difference in fuel consumption is a huge factor for people doing a high mileage, my car is 8 months old and has just passed 9000 miles this week.
I know its not as quick as the petrol versions but will still get to 60mph in 6 seconds and is limited at 155mph so is no slouch !
It drew so many looks in France and some great comments, never saw another in the whole tiime I was there, did a total mileage of around 1600 miles and it drove perfectly.

 

The car can't be touched looks wise by anything in its class or higher. That is 4 door luxury sport!

Hi, a lot of people that have been in it are amazed when I tell them it is a diesel, it is really well insulated. From the outside, if you are keen on cars you can tell , but for an inexperienced person they would be oblivious to the engine noise.
The engine iin this one is also fitted to the Jaguar XFS as well, in that car the acceleration is even faster !
I still really like the sound of a V8 and have kept my 2003 XJ which has the 3.5 V8.
Due to fuel costs there are lots of diesel cars over here now and they all do amazing consumptioin figures and some of the better ones ,like the Jaguar, have amazing performance as well. A couple of years ago the Lemans 24hour race was won by an Audi diesel if I remember correctly.
The S class Mercs, Audi A8's and BMW 7 series all do diesel varients.

I did do a search on you tube and found this, you can hear the engine noise and he accelerates from 0 to 260 kph which is just over 160mph,the engine is only doing about 3500rpm at that maximum speed, rather impressive, take a look.

Just took her on for the 15K service. The dealer had 3 other things to do. The latch on the armrest. The Cluster update. And a Roof pop update...... Interesting. I have not had any popping......

 

All is well. Dealer did the service, the glove box, and the roof. I now know that I did have a pop i think............. I am learning about the extended life oil Jag uses. More on that as I get it. A little to technical for me. I felt like I needed a lube job after looking at it!!

 

They did the glove box latch replace on mine too and I liked the old one better. You really have to stab this one to get it to open--I guess they figured the original one took too light a touch.

 

Why is there no 2008 JXR section?
