Default oil change

Anyone bothered by the 15,000 mile oil change?

I have always changed oil every 2 to 5000 miles, depending on the maintenance book.
With just under 25,000 miles and running like a 'top' it has not burned a drop of oil and I do change it every year with the inspection.
In fact, it seem to be running better as the miles get higher.
A very long brake-in period.

HI, Im just curious of did you perform the oil change / maintainance yourself? If so, how did you reset the service indicator?

Bill, did you perform the oil change yourself? Or did you have the dealership perform the task? If you did, how did you reset the service indicator?

No-- I have the dealer do it all.
Its not my main car, I drive a jeep during the week.
So the Jag's miles are low.
Right now its just under 25000 miles. I would guess that is
low for 2011.
Was told every 15000 miles or every year. Has anyone complained or
had a problem because of this??

Bill,

I've been informally collecting data on oil change intervals vs. engine life vs. oil types for many years.

There's nothing really adventurous or cutting edge about 15K mile intervals other than people remembering the old days where we all believed that 3K miles was mandatory to avoid damage.

Possibly in the future we'll see 50K intervals.

I change oil between 7k and 8k, but that's just me. My tech says the 15k interval is fine and there is no need to change more often. I have yet to show any oil consumption between changes, unlike my wife's 2014 BMW 650i Convertible with M package that gets 2k/gt., but then Lokasil aluminum cylinder finish is notorious for oil consumption.
