Parcel Shelf Installation XJ x251 2016
I have managed to close the boot and not be able to get back inside it. Long story but had to remove rear seats, take off C pillars, parcel shelf, and speakers to be able to able to reach to the rear of the boot to hook onto the Boot Release. Bingo.....
Now, attempting to reinstall everything, the speakers went back ok, but after 4 hours of trying, I cannot get the parcel shelf back in. Trying to push down at the rear of the shelf to get the tab into it's hole is proving impossible.
Do I have to remove the rear window to get this job done as I'm about fed up with trying now?
Any help appreciated

You did not need to do that?
The sticky at the top of the forum would explain how. Remove the lower rear seat and there is a plug you can use to power open the trunk.
Yes that middle tab is a bitch! One guy used a piece of string and wrapped it around the tab you can't get in. Then ran both ends back into the rear seat area of the car.
Now when you pull on the string it pulls the tab down where it will go in while you push on the rear shelf. Then just pull on one end of the string to remove it.
If you had searched he posted some very nice pictures on how to do it.
I forgot which forum member posted but hopefully he will read this and point you to his thread.

During hours of trying, I used the ruler trick but couldn't get the shelf back far enough to slot in the hole, then the ruler was so tight against the glass it was stuck.
Also tied string around the tab but couldn't get enough bend on the tab for it to get into the slot.
Third option, I went into the boot removed the carpet under the roof of the boot, drilled a small hole and threaded string around the tab and pulled straight down from the boot with my partner pushing the shelf from within the car.
None of these options worked for me.....
Getting a quote from Autoglass now to remove the rear screen allowing me to fit shelf and C pilars then for them to replace rear screen. Will see what the quote is
Losing the will to live now. I've had 5 Jags over the past 14 years and maybe this will be the last over this
