Default Plus sized tires

Before you all loose your minds, I am not looking to go donk on you. What I am looking to do is to keep the overall tire diameter, but get a little bit wider tires under the car. Looking at the rims, it appears that they are almost too wide for the tires that are on the car (currently have 245/45R19s on front and 275/40R19's on the rear). I would be looking at going say a +1 on the tire width (going to 255's on the front, 285's on the rear). Has anyone done this? Room wise it appears I should be fine. I am looking to get a bit more traction for take offs and as always, get some more braking ability out of the car too. I would be tempted on going to 295's in the rear, but then I would probably also need to step down to say a 35 series tire too. Not even sure if the tires are available in the size(s) I am looking at.

Anyone got any comments?

Increased unsprung weight (from heavier tires) will degrade the car's ride, and degrade the car's handling by decreasing road contact when driving over bumpy roads, such as when negotiating bumpy curves or stopping on washboard surfaces. You will also increase the probability of your car hydroplaning on wet or slushy roads, at any speed, again decreasing your ability to negotiate curves or stop quickly.

Wide tires are great on race cars negotiating nice smooth and dry track surfaces, but compromise performance on everyday roads, especially if it rains or snows.

As an alternative you might want to simply change the existing tire sizes for a different brand: i.e.: http://www.etyres.co.uk/news/conti-t...in-17719.html; Also check out other sources of competitive tire tests, i.e. Tire Rack.
