Bu once mine was fixed correctly no more pops or any undue noises for 6 months / 6k miles on bad Chicago area roads. And I am very noise sensitive and wouldn't put up with it. Like I said my early VIN XJ is perfect now.
No pops in my 10,200 mile car since fixed during the first 2 months of ownership. I think they figured it out and hopefully the cars rolling off the assembly line are good.

Glad to hear that you agree with me. Lexus' are very good cars, well built, well equipped, and reliable.

I have always thought of myself as a car lover, and when one owns a BMW, Bentley, Merc, Rolls, Jag and the like there is a piece of history and heritage that goes with these cars that just aint present in Lexus, Infinity and Acura; I suppose it's the same reason we buy a scratched and battered item to decorate our homes when the shops have brand new ones; yet we prefer the old antique with the history behind it - it's a question more of human sentiment than practicability.

First VIN was 2800 range...Second VIN 7900, so that is pretty much at the 8,000 range. Though I don't think there is any magic cut off point. Six months w/o a sound? My second went 8 months w/o a sound, so write back in two months and let us know. Though the popping is not at BAD as the first, it's less frequent, but more pronounced...more like a knock than a pop.

Nah... those are comments of usually people who have never owned a LS-460 before. I have one and it's a great car, everything works, all the time. But I like the Jag design. A Jag body with lexus engineering would be ideal!

I've owned a couple of LS's and, yes, they are almost flawless but they never gave me the feeling of satisfaction that the new XJ (or any of the other 4 Jaguars I have owned for that matter) does. I think, in that respect, one could consider them boring.

I don't know exactly how you define 'engineering' of an automobile considering this department has many sub-sections, at least two of which fall in to the categories of reliability and performance; I consider Toyota to be very adept at the former, but well behind in the latter.

After having one XJ fixed 3 times for this, and another ostensibly "rolled out of the facotry" with all issues resolved (high VIN and all), here now is fix for the roof popping: CLS, A7, A8, 7 Series, S-Class, Panamera.

Here is another fix. How about you move on to the MB CLS forum and let Jaguar owners discuss their Jaguar's.

I don't think there's anyone on this forum, pwl, that is as loathed as you are. But that's probably just your "personality". Hopefully you are self employed.

Go trade it in, be upside down, and call it a day.

JL, own regional rep is MH not MS. but same opinion on the former discussion. My best fix is antifriction tape between the torx screws that mount the sunblind motors to the metal crossbar...yours?
