dragonalfa, the wiring should be there already. Granted, I thought all XJ's came standard with the back up camera. As for having to enable the camera, let me do some looking. I will see if I can find where it says whether you have to or not. There might be a cheat also for enabling the camera that will prevent you from having to go to the dealership.

Unfortunately you like won't have the wiring present in the bumper harness or the fascia harness (the telematics harness inbetween the two may be prewired).
However it all depends what your VIN is. The earlier cars omitted a lot of extras that were later included as standard even if not specified on that vehicle. If you want to PM me with your VIN I can check.
You can easily tell if you have the wiring there from looking at a couple of connectors.
The bumper harness enters the car at the rear left of the trunk where the spare tyre lives. There is an obvious rubber grommet where it comes through. If you follow the wiring it connects to the cabin and telematics harnesses about 8" from the grommet. Do you see a small 4 way black connector there? That is used exclusively for the rear view camera so if the wiring is present on either or both of the harnesses then you can tell if they are prewired. (If the bumper harness is prewired you will find the camera connector connected to a blanking plug clipped to the rear.)
The other one to check is behind the touch screen. Note where there is a seam in the leather trim about level with the base of the screen. Insert a flat tool at the seam and pop the surround off at both sides, then force it forward with your fingers (it is firmly held, but wont break). Then you will clearly see the four torx screws to remove the screen. You need to remove the AC control panel below too but can leave it plugged in. Note the way that the metal trim along the top of the screen is clipped on as it is easy to dislodge. Once the screen is loose check if you have the purple coax connector connected up (the one nearest to the black optical connector). Then check the large grey connector to see if there is a white with blue stripe wire in position 3.
Those two checks will tell you which, if any, harnesses are pre-wired.
You should have the power feed for the camera as far at the bumper harness connector as I can't find a service part option for a harness with it omitted, but the schematics do show it as being optional (circuit code J3KAB should only be present when rear view camera is specified).
Once you know what is in your car post back with the results and we can advise how to overlay the wiring if needed.
You will need to edit the CCF of the vehicle to add the rear view camera with SDD, the dealer diagnostics software. I would not advise doing this with a cloned/copy adapter as you can brick your car if you misflash the CCF. It is not difficult for someone experienced to do, and although most dealers will not touch it many jag independants will.
As noted you will need to mount the camera yourself. I suspect the bumper cover likely has the mountings on the back and is just missing the hole to avoid maintaining different injection moulds, but can't be certain.
Note the other option is to add your own after market camera. You'll still need to edit the CCF to enable it on the touch screen, and you would loose the integration with the parking sensors or reversing guides (no overlaid graphics), but it would otherwise work as expected.
