Ok, I am trying to access the approach lights in the bottom of the exterior mirrors. I looked in the service manual and it says that you need to remove the glass in the mirror and then slide a screw driver into a slot that lines up with the light fixture. That is about as much as it says. The first question is whether you really need to remove the glass in the mirror (if so, how, it just shows 2 arrows, both pointing towards the center of the mirror)? I can get a screw driver into the slot without having to remove the mirror.
The second question is how you get the fixture to release. The manual just shows you sliding a screw driver into the slot and the fixture should pop out. I have tried sliding the screw driver in at the top, at the bottom, inserting a flat blade screw driver and giving a twist. I am running out of ideas. Just how does it release? I would think that it would have a wedge type retainer that if you pushed against it as you slid the screw driver along the bottom of the slot, this would allow you to release the retainer and the fixture could pop out. That doesn't seem to be working for me. What am I missing here? I am sure once I get the one out, then it will all make sense to me as to how things should come apart.
