Default Rear seat noise

Hi All,

When I drive my XJ on uneven roads, and when nobody sits in the rear, I do have when driving over bumps a small noise coming from the back of the right rear seat.

I removed the seats to check, but saw nothing loose nor worn (the backseat bindings really look like they were engineered in the 80s in some soviet republic, but I suppose they are original...).

If somebody sits in the seat but does not lean back, the noise is present. The more one leans back, or even pushes the seat upper part back, the less noise there is...

Is this a known problem, any ideas where this could come from?

Can you reproduce the sound with the car off by shaking the back rest? Could it be the clip that keeps the backrest in place. There is that piece of plastic that fits over the clip that may not be secure.

Thanks Nedoerr! No, shaking the back rest does not reproduce the noise... But I do not remember seeing a piece of plastic above the clip, on neither side of the car... Maybe that is missing... I should have taken a picture, as removing the seats is a pain and deadly for the fingers/hand skin...

Do you happen to have a picture or scheme of that plastic piece by any chance?

Sure, when I get the car back from the muffler shop I’ll take a picture. The white triangular pieces of plastic often fall off the clip when I remove the backrest and then they fall down to the bottom of the seat. Each time I have to look for them down the seam.

Other thought is sound could be something loose in the parcel shelf (ie a rear speaker).

Turns out the plastic triangle pieces are black, not white. They fit over the metal clips like in the attached pictures.

Thanks a lot Nedoerr!

Indeed, I don't remember seeing these plastic pieces:
This is why I wrote "the backseat bindings really look like they were engineered in the 80s in some soviet republic, but I suppose they are original".. next to the rusty piece of metal that fits into them...

I will check if they are present or at the bottom of the seat.

Hopefully that fixes your issue. I’m pretty sure they are there to prevent metal-on-metal rattling.

Thanks; well, I checked and the plastic pieces are there... my memory was wrong on that one.
But I used the occasion to wrap some PTFE/Teflon tape around the metal piece that engages in the metal clip... will revert if it did help.

Have you got any idea what is the part number on those (the numbers on the part don't correspond with the catalog codes) as mine are shattered.

Sorry I don’t know the part number, I would contact the parts department at a dealership. They shouldn’t be too expensive. If you figure it out, please post the numbers back here. Thanks

Yes please do!
I have the JEPC and they are not shown with the rear seat. But as much as I have used the JEPC the more I know
It's in there I just can't find it!!

I have had my rear seat out (2014 XJR) and don't remember them but it's coming out again real soon for a rear deck sub woofer upgrade.
If mine are missing I would like to order a set ahead of time.
