I just do it once a year because I'm not racking up the mileage interval anyway. Plus I'm a DIY'er with several cars to maintain which makes it hard enough to keep up with. But if were racking up a lot of miles, I would not wait to 16,000. I grew up with 3,000 mile intervals and still expected an engine overhaul around 70,000 so to stretch intervals to 16,000 miles and expect a car to last 200K just does not seem plausible. I know the technology and quality has improved drastically, but I also think the "Marketing Department" has probably more control over what information gets published than the engineers do. They'd love nothing more than to be able to publish a brochure touting that their car is totally "Maintenance Free" but since they can't, they probably figured out statistically what was the absolute minimum maintenance schedule that would get the cars past the warranty period within a certain warrant budget. "Low maintenance" is a key selling point, particularly to a very busy executive type person who leases a new luxury car every year or two. Your X351 is too new to worry about some items, but those of us with much older Jaguars have already learned the hard way that some of Jaguar's maintenance claims like, transmissions "sealed for life" were overly ambitious marketing hype. I think you're doing the right thing, reading these forums and asking what are other owners experiencing.

Some thoughts in no particular order :
Personally I'd think about halving the 16K interval. My car only does 8K a year, so that's somewhat automatic in my case. My X308 XJR had oil changes at half the recommended interval for its whole life. At 15 years old, and 140K miles, the engine was going perfectly with no signs of wear. It was on the original tensioners. If you looked inside the valve covers, the heads were clean and shiny with no buildup of carbon. Overall, a very healthy engine.
On the subject of transmission fluid, I serviced my X308 XJR's transmission at 135K, which was 80K since the previous service at 55K. The fluid was disgusting. Pitch black, with a thick layer of sludge in the pan. I don't know how the transmission can be expected to work well with fluid in that condition. I'd consider 50K intervals for trans fluid.
