Service interval reset - success

I just used one of these to reset my service interval counter (the dealer forgot to do it, but rather than go back I thought I'd take the opportunity to buy a tool) :

It also seems to have a parking brake reset, although I haven't tried it yet.

Mark SF, I used to have an Autel device, threw it away after a year. What they don't make very clear in the instructions is that yes, the first year you are good to go with what you purchased. BUt, it will shut down in a year and want more money to keep things going and in my case, they completely stopped supporting the device because they came out with a new version and wanted me to upgrade to that.

I just reset my service light too. Mine did not stop working after 1 year? Not sure why but I had to update the firmware in the OBD dongle before I could use it.
Surprised how much it's gone up in price as I paid about $25 for it several years ago.
I think I see the problem?
The first manufacturer you download is good forever. Any extra's that your purchase for $21 will only work for one year then you need to renew. But the renew charge is only to add newer year models it will still read the older years just fine.
Since all I use it for is my XJ that Jaguar package will stay working with no time limit.

Nash,
Asking someone about their favorite scanner is, is akin to 'What's the best color?"
I use the iCarsoft v2.0 JLR. It reads codes, data streams, resets the service indicator, resets the BCM, Air Bags, blah, blah, blah......and more. I used it to do a brake flush correctly.
Mine ($150ish) covers my 2012 XJ, 2017 F-Pace and 2019 XJ 575. For and extra fee ($20 from memory) they will expand it to cover most makes and models via a software update.

I understand what you're saying, wombat, was never trying to ask a personal question or mock/judge Mark's choice. When I click on the link Mark provided I see what looks like an adapter that would be inserted in the diagnostic connection point in the car. My question, never having owned a scanner, was at $61 it appeared to be a really good price! So, is the scanner (with a screen readout) also needed to be purchased? Or, as a description line appears to indicate, would I simply use my phone as a scanner and just need the Autel MaxiAP AP200 Obd2 Scanner as shown in Mark's link?
