Default Digital mirror/Shark fin Antenna Mod

Can anyone tell me what each of the color coded plugs are for? Need to know for a mod.

I'm adding a digital rear view mirror..and wanted a wide field of view. Decided to add a camera in the shark fin, like the newer JLRs (Without speanding over $1k for the system)

I needed a place to run the wire for the camera... I don't use XM so I decided to get rid of it. GPS is a must. And if I unplugged the others..I got the \"SOS System" warning ⚠️ on the dash.

Under side.

Next was to use a step drill to go thru the circuit board

Well, looking, I am not seeing any markings that may reference to a specific function. Hopefully you can look at the wiring that was connected. That is the only way that I can see how we can match things up.

Based on wire colors, you should have 2 red wires, a yellow wire with a green stripe, and 2 wires that are what they term "screen braid". Of interest, 1 of the red wires and 1 of the screen braided wires should be joined together by a plastic clip looking piece. This is a ferrite bead piece for eliminating noise. This is critical to note as this red wire and screen braid wire are for your AM/FM signals for the radio (on the drawing, this is also referred to as the "CODE A BLACK" side). The yellow wire with a green stripe is a power wire. The remaining red wire and screen braid wire is for a second FM antenna which should be for your digital data (on the drawing, this is also referred to as the "CODE B NATURAL" side). Another tidbit that you need to know is that there is 2 amplifiers that are built into this antenna (one for each of the FM signals) and that each of the bolts are also ground points. So, you will need to make sure that the holes around the bolts are clean and rust free.

Not sure if this is going to be useful information, but the AM/FM side is referred to as C9ME115A/1 and A/2 with A/1 being the red wire and the A/2 being the screen braid wire. The power wire is referred to as C9ME115F/1. The other FM line is referred to as C9ME116A/1 and A/2 with red being A/1 and the screen braid being A/2.

Hopefully this gives you what you need to know.

I may have opened my mouth a little too soon. Looking at the drawings, I can see up to 6 antennas that can possibly be in the car. This is what I am finding:

FM1 (aka CODE A BLACK) - FM/AM signals
FM2 (aka CODE B NATURAL) - a second FM signal (used for traffic messaging information, ie, Nav updates on accidents and whatnot)
GPS (aka, Blue C) - GPS signals for navigation
Digital audio Broadcasting (DAB) (aka, H Violet) - digital music
DAB (second antenna) (aka, CODE D CLARET VIOLET) - second antenna for digital music
Satellite Digital Audio Radio System (SDARS) (aka, K CURRY) - different form of digital music

I am finding out some interesting stuff. If you are looking at the rear of the car. The right side of the rear window contains the AM/FM antenna along with the TV1 and TV2 antennas. The left side of the rear window has the FM2 signals, the TV3 and TV4 antennas along with some of the DAB (calls it DAB_3) antenna. This would appear to be fed to an amplifier there in the left side of the trunk for the DAB audio. Then, in the top center of the rear window is all the DAB Band L antennas. So, this is leaving the SDARS system for the shark fin on top. As for which wire does what, what I have is not specific enough for me to be able to determine. But, hopefully this gives you some information that is useful.

Continuing from the original post.

I didn't want to fully rid of this aluminum part. I lined the camera to trace around it..then used snips to cut it out. I made remove the case of the camera also. Its sealed inside and has half and inch of hollow space. Plus it will not be exposed to the weather.

Started working on the inner shell of the antenna. FYI, the color matched shell snaps off without needing to remove the antenna.. in case someone needs to replace a cracked/damaged one. I used a Dremel to shape a hole. I'll use some ABS sludge to seal it around the cam. The silicone from inside.

Had to stop since I randomly started this and ran out of time. I took the antenna out just to look inside and see if I had space. It was a pain in the *** to remove the connectors so I haven't put it back in. Didn't want to go thru that again.. so I just taped the holes in the roof for now.

Tomorrow I plan one fine tuning the angle of the camera. Glue it in place. Cut out a circular hole in the color matched shell (nervous bout that part &#128517
Put it back together and reinstall.

Then work on the mirror install. Want to make it look stock as possible.

Marking the center. Used a small tap on the inside as a guide.

This part was nerve wracking. I had the drill torque set too high. The bit snagged, cause a kickback..and scratched it a bit. It could've been worse.

1st camera was good.. but was a cubic shape. Would be difficult to cut a square hole. I remembered I ordered a brand new Natika AHD camera a while back..and used it instead. The housing needed to be trimmed some. This camera had a metal housing, which made it a PITA.

Glad I did. The flush mount looks wayyy better. Need to touch up the nick made from drilling 🤦🏾‍♂️

More to come

Next is to run the wires to the rearview mirror location and hopefully fine a 12V source.

I'll be modding the rearview mirror to look stock.
