Default Is this a (small) quality control issue?

I went to eBay to look at some 2011/12 XJs for sale. I looked at five of them, and I have noticed a common problem looking at their pictures: Inside of the trunk, the carpet on the top left of the opening, just below the weather strip, has been loose and dropped down on ALL of them. For the XJ owners here, does this happen in your car too? I would think at this price point, this car should not present such issue.

With 10,000 miles on my car I haven't had that issue. But with a 5 year warranty I would just go to the dealer and have them replace it.

Well, I had to go look at mine and, sure enough, the carpet lining was slightly drooping down in that exact spot. There is an overlapping separation of the lining pieces there (and on the other side) and one had just popped out from under the other one, so I just popped it back in. The overlap could definately be larger there, so vibration is probably making the pieces separate over time. The right side was okay.

Why they didn't use a little bit of glue at the factory?... It can't be cost.

It looks like these carpet pieces are intended to just overlap and not be glued to make them removeable to get to the rear speakers. A little more overlap of the pieces would do the trick.

cause there are alot of control modules etc... that are hidden behind the liners that have to be accessed on occassion. trust me when I say its a big improvement over previous yrs and models

I have the previous model and it is exactly the same as you describe. No doubt I'll get round to tidying it up on a warm Spring day. Of course my car is well-used at 8 years old so I'm not so bothered. There are a couple of press-on type fixings, maybe these need to be pressed in a bit harder.

The early VINS where getting water shedders put in over the AMPs and a "12 Point Harness Check". The trim most likely wasn't secured correctly back on. This is minor BS that shouldn't even be worried about.

Well, I saw this in five different cars for sale, so seems to be a small chronic problem. Of course I wouldn't bring this up if we were talking about a $20K Kia, but in a 70K-90K car ... not acceptable.

You're still bickering over XJ's? Go buy a lexus, I heard they won Top Gear's "neatest panel gap consistency award" recently.
