I have a 2011 XJL, which I assume has the same "base" stereo system as your 2012 XJ. I'm quite satisfied with this system, but then again, I'm not interested in trying to blow the windows out of the car, causing personal hearing loss, or being heard a block away with Rap "music". One thing I do know is that extra cost "Premium" brand name sound systems don't always provide as good of fidelity, stereo separation, dynamic range and response, or overall performance as the so-called "base" systems. For example, my C6 Chevrolet Corvette "base" sound system far outperforms the extra cost "Bose" system which most Vette owners agree "blows", and provides "no highs or lows". Many are impressed with names like Bose or Meridian, but in reality have "tin" ears, a marketer's delight.

I have in my brochure collection the 2012 XJ brochure. According to the specs the base audio system has 14 speakers and 600watts. I know that the optional system is 1200watts and is labeled Bowers and Wilkins. From what I have read all the speakers are made by a third party and that the B&W speakers are made to their specs. Also, I seem tor recollect that the head units were built by either Harmon Kardon or Alpine, since both have had a history with Jaguar and Land Rover. My 2013 SuperSport has the 850watt Meridian and find it the best audio system I have ever had in a car.
