Strange occurrence, any thoughts?

Yesterday, I had to run a couple of errands, and took my wife's XJ, as it needed to be "gassed up", and I thought it would be the most efficient to do everything at once. I hit the store, then sat in line at the drive-up teller at the bank, for maybe 6-7 minutes, then off to the gas station.
I filled up the car, then got back in it, to leave. I pressed the "start" button, and got an error message, saying the car doesn't recognize the key fob. HUH?? I just drove there, with that key fob in my pocket! I tried it again, and this time the car started, HOWEVER, after driving 40-50 feet, and not even getting out of the station, the car stalled. It did restart, thankfully, and I drove home without incident.
After arriving home, trying to think of any causes for this "hiccup", I changed the batteries in our fobs, as I couldn't think of anything else to try. The car is a 2016, and while I'm not positive, the batteries in the fobs may have been the originals. Anybody have any ideas about what might have caused this?

it could very well just be a fluke thing. maybe the keyfob battery is getting weak, or the signal got crossed. nothing to worry about unless you start seeing the message more
FYI - in the event the fob battery does die, you need to hold the key up against the dashboard where your left knee is

Your Smartkey can be blocked if it's in the same pocket with your cellphone.
Keep a spare CR2032 battery in your glove box in case your Smartkey battery dies. It's easy to replace.
P.S. Deleted incorrect information. I thought I was in the X150 Forum. Sorry.

...and when it didn't work, you coasted or pushed down a slight grade and let the clutch out in 3rd gear. Ah, the joys of a 6 volt car in PA!
Regarding your Jag's Senior Moment, mine sometimes questions my fob if I've used the spare fob last time.

I immediately headed off to the "side streets", but there were still 2-3 stop signs between me and my house. In order to make it home, I had to blip the gas, and slip the car out of gear, as I approached the intersections, stop the car, then get out and push the car, to get it rolling, then blip the gas and slip it into gear. Ah-h-h yes, the "good old days".....
And on a serious note, my wife carries her fob for the XJ in her purse, and she drives the car about 60% of the time. My fob for the car stays in the house, unless I'm driving, so in essence, the car sees almost equal use of both key fobs.
