Default Sun Visor Falling Down with bulge on top

Driver Side Sun Visor Issue--
My sun visor was hanging down. When I had car washed, they pushed it up and now there is a bulge at the top and it hangs down even lower. Is replacement necessary or can this be repaired?

If you can, have the sun visor repaired, I would suggest that. The online replacement cost for the drivers side sun visor is $581.73! That does not include labor.

Is this something that I would have repaired at dealer or is it best to approach a body repair shop?

IMHO a dealer would say it has to be replaced, but an auto upholstery might be able to repair it. Can you post a picture of it?

If you get it repaired post a picture of the repair.

I only have an S Type but finally just purchased new visors because I could not find any shop that would do them.

Here is a picture of the visor. As you can see the fabric is coming loose and there is a budge in what I b believe is the battery compartment in the upper left hand corner. The light still works but the visor drops does not stay up. It is annoying while driving.

Looking at your photo, I would find an auto upholstery shop. See if your dealer may have any recommendations. surely in New York there has got to be someone capable., just my opinion.

The same thing just happened to me. Anyone have a DIY fix? Or is it time for the dealer?

Personally, I would check out some vehicle dismantlers. There are some specialist Jaguar ones.

Tried out-of-state? Some of them will ship.

I've been busy and wasn't able to drive out there until yesterday. Unfortunately, the plastic swivel housing is broken and they can't repair it. I ordered a new one from Hennessy North Point Jaguar and will replace it next week.

Bumping this back up, same just happened to mine. I am going to attempt to repair the broken plastic housing with some metal reinforcement bars for now. Tests seem to indicate it will work OK, and I'm not spending 500 on a new one of the same design. Design is so bad that these will all eventually break, there's just too much force on the mechanism and it's just held by cheap plastic. This is a very, very easy job, anyone with a T40 screwdriver can remove the visor with 2 screws. Absolutely no need for a body shop to do this.

Same thing happened to mine, found a used replacement on ebay but even that's on its way out. It doesn't stay snugged up against the headliner in the closed position.

From taking apart as much of the thing as possible to see what's going on, what happens is the two plastic edges on the swivel rod "hold" the mechanism in place. With use and age, this can only fail. Once one side of the plastic edge goes, you get the 'won't stay snugged up' issue. When both sides go, you get a totally floppy visor.

Default Limp Sun Visor replacement

Had the limp visor on my wife's '11 XJL. After trying to locate a used junk yard version I came to the realization that I'd likely not be able to find the exact color and even if I did, how long will it last being that it is used when I get it. I called the local dealer who quoted me over $700! That got my attention, so I gave the dealer my VIN# and got the correct part number which in my case was C2D6286AMN , this part number is for the US version XJL. I did a lot of searching on the internet until I found a German outfit called HandlerParts.com. They claimed that they had the exact item on order and it would take a week before it shipped. For 338.50 Euro ($380.17) including UPS, it seemed like a good deal to me, so I checked all my credit cards before I found that my Costco Citi card does not charge 5% for out of country charges and I ordered it. Well 1 week turned into about 5 weeks, but I just received it yesterday and installed it in 5 minutes. It's a perfect color match and feels solid as it is brand new shipped in factory plastic. I never thought I'd be so happy to pay $380 for a visor, but I didn't even want to drive the car the way it was!

Thanks for sharing the info. It's a problem that we've all seen or will see, and I'd guess a lot of other posters will appreciate the source and experience you're sharing.

My visor is beginning to show these same symptoms so it's only a matter of time. Does anybody have a photo of this "mechanism" along with the problematic broken plastic pieces that cannot be repaired? Might it be possible to 3-D print new plastic parts for a repair?

Just curious,

Tom

About a year ago my drivers side visor drooped down on my 2012 XJL. I found one on eBay for $50 and my wife installed it after watching a You Tube video
in 20 minutes. Now, a year later, that one has drooped along with the passenger side and both now have the tear. I just bought another set of two for $390
and when my wife gets time she will install them. If these fail, I’m going to get the smallest piece of Velcro I can find to keep them from drooping as I really can’t drive safely with them drooping. With these three failures, they have caught up with my three water pump failures, ah yes, the joy of owning a x351
