I have made the leap of faith. I have taken ownership of a 2012 XJ. I am enjoying the first few days of ownership and trying to take in all the bells and whistles of this car. I will get pictures of Jackie (the car) up shortly. But she is a black XJ base with the ivory/gray interior. I was really hoping for the XJL, but in my area, there were very few to be had. Since I was kinda on the fence over getting the XJL or not, I decided to just get the XJ. Lets see what happens. If you all have any info (wiring diagrams, TSBs, manuals, etc) in electronic form that you can send my way, I will put it to good use helping out the members here.

One thing that I have noticed is my car does not have DRLs. Was that part of the upgrade in 2013? Just checking. If they are not standard on the 2012, then there might be a quick upgrade that I will have to make.

Chris,

Congrats on the new ride! Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

The LED lights on my 2013 are not DRLs that are bright and noticeable like on Audis. See post #41: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-44232/page3/

Hey Chris, good taste! I just purchased a 2011 XJ, also black. I can get any diagrams you need with my alldata subscription, just let me know.

As mentioned above, the LED 'signature lights' aren't very bright, but you can 'hack' it to turn on with the ignition. There's a thread dedicated to it.

If you wan't the REAL DRLs using the low beams, you can turn it on with SDD if you have it.

H2O, if you can get me a complete set of diagrams, that would be greatly appreciated. You know me and the diagrams. If I have something to work with, I can make just about anything happen.

Unfortunately, I don't have SDD (yet). I have a feeling that if I got something with that kind of power, I would end up having way too much fun if you know what I mean. But, it may be worth looking into.

Hi Chris,

Congrats on the new Jag. It sounds like a really nice car. You're right about the slim pickings in the DC area. When I was shopping for my XJ, I could find only around two cars that fit my criteria that weren't 100 miles or so away.

Congrats on the "new" XJ...I bought my XJ exactly 13 months to the day...PM me if you need any DIY info via Mitchell1-eAutoRepair. It helped me with installing Video in Motion and the seat climate control filters

So Chris,

Now that you've driven Jackie for a couple of weeks, what are your initial impressions?

Gorgeous car!!! Hard to see in the pics. What color is it??

Have any of the annoying roof pop sounds? Or the electrical gremlins? I'm thinking of buying one but I'm a little bit afraid of these two things.

Alan, no gremils so far other than one day the mirrors didn't unfold. But, that was resolved by simply turning the car off and back on. As for the popping sunroof, no pops that I have encountered. Granted, the sunroof does open rather quickly if you ask me. If you want to go for a drive, let me know. As for color, it is the basic black. I was really want the ultimate black metallic, but I couldn't find a car in that color that had a price I was willing to pay.

John, I am loving the car. Other than a few oddities (long time for the radio to read the USB, but then, I do have a 32GB memory stick in there, mirrors not unfolding one time, and chirping the tires fairly easily), I am enjoying every moment. Granted, I am also getting a list of mods ready for when I start that adventure. so far, the list is as follows:

-20% tint all the way around on the windows
-removing all the bright chrome, getting it re-plated in black chrome
-installing long tube headers and a custom rue dual exhaust (granted, the note of the car is pretty nice at the moment, hate to ruin it)
-headlight mod involving improved DRL lights and a potential 16.7 million color headlight color kit to be hidden in the headlight housing). This will also probably expand to the vents on the side and into the interior of the car in various places (sill plates, cup holder openings, etc).
-upgraded intake

After that, who knows. The one mod that I have already started is I blacked out the mirror stripe on the side mirrors with some 20% tint. Thinking I am going to redo this with some lighter tint and to expand the lighting inside the mirror to something a little more intense as the tint (atleast right now) has really killed the light that can be seen.

Good to hear your enjoying your new XJ, and have plans to mod it.

These sound interesting, particularly the black chrome plating. Please let us know what you find out regarding costs, etc.

I have the same color as you in "L" form that I just did 20% tint on, it's a big improvement.

Next for me is the swaybar upgrade and maybe some 21" Coventry wheels. I find the stock 19's a bit too small for such a big car.

Did you ever get around to do the DRL hack?

I have not done the DRL hack as I am looking to do something a little different. If you want to do it, let me know. It won't be that hard to do. Wiring is what I do for a living. So, I am sure we can get you taken care of.
