The car looks too big for the wheels.
I saw the new XJ a few times and nearly confused it with the XF every time. So I don't see the point of paying $1000's more for an XJ when you can get a far cheaper XF that looks more or less the same from a few yards away.

Well, you have to drive it. I got a loaner 2011 XF a couple of times when my XJ was in service. If you are ONLY worried about what the car looks like from a few years away and NOTHING else, well, then. (There are a few Buick look alikes by the way)
I like the XF and it drives VERY WELL with the new engine. But it is by far not the same.
Size, interior design, handling, exterior design (some) there ar emajor differences. The interiour of the XF is, well nice, but, not much different then in any other nice cars. Nothing special there.
I would NEVER want to miss my XJ in exchange for an XF. Having driven the XF a couple of days I can say it makes a very worthy alternative to a BMW 5 series or Mercedes E class. And it probably has one of the best engines currently out there.
I wonder if you have owned, or at least driven extensively either one of those cars. Because of not, how would you know?

Well you will really be confused with the 2012 XF because it looks exactly like the XJ. But can you tell the difference between any Audi or BMW or Mercedes for that fact from the front? I get the C and E class mixed up all the time because they look the same. And now the BMW 5 series looks like the 7 series. And all Audi's look the same. It's the options and interior that tells the difference. When you get inside an XJ you know instantly you are not in an XF. And its the same with all other cars. I live in Germany where there is an Audi A1 to A8 and while you can tell the difference by size once you get to the A4 they all look the same in the front and I challenge anybody to tell the difference between a 4 door A5 and a A7 at first glance.
