Tire Size and Selection

So I need to replace the tires on my 2016 XJ Supercharged. The car is currently running Pirelli P Zero's.
First question: The Pirelli's are 255/40 ZR20 (front) and 285/35 ZR20 (rear). Is this the correct size? The local dealer didn't think so, and Tire Rack recommends 245/40 ZR20's and 275/35 ZR20's. I'm guessing the PO put these on. Any harm in staying with the larger width, or should I go back to what appears to be the recommended size?
Second Question: I need All Season tires, living in New England (although she won't see much snow, I've got a Jeep for that). After reviewing and searching through posts, it seems the preferred tires are either:
Continental Extreme Contact DWS06
Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 or Pilot Sport AS/3+
Pirelli's seem good but don't seem to last / wear well.
Any other suggestions on tires, and what's the difference between the two Micelin's?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Barney, I would go with the sizes that Jaguar recommends because of the ABS. You get too much of a tire diameter difference, the ABS/traction control is going to kick in and make driving interesting. I am sure the previous owner stepped up to the 285's because they were breaking the factory tires loose all the time. I know I had that issue with the factory tires with my NA 5.0L motor. I could not wait to get the Pirelli's off of the car. LIke you said, they wore fast and didn't have great traction honestly. I stepped up to the Continential DWS 06's (now the 06 Plus) and have been happy ever since.
Hope this gives you what you are after.

Agree with Thermo about the OE size. I replaced the OE P-Zero tires with their new version, P-Zero All-Season Plus. They have a completely different tread pattern than the originals, and I've been very happy with them. Keep in mind that all the tires you're considering are designed for performance, not longevity. The XJ is a big car, and spirited driving with a 4,000 lb. car invites tire wear.

I run the Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3+ on my current XJ and on my previous XJ8 because I wanted the softer ride. The Pirellis always gave a harsh ride and I couldn't wait to get them off the car. No problems driving in the winter snow with a RWD but then I'm driving in Maryland and not Massachusetts.

When I got my XJL about a year ago it came with a new set of P-Zero Nero All Season tires. Would not have been my first choice for tire (A/S 3+
) but so far so good.
I am pretty picky about noise and the Ps are plenty quiet, though I do admit that I just came from driving a convertible last 7 years and most anything with a top and windows seems quiet to me.
I got exceptional mileage out of the A/S 3 tires on last 2 sets. Hope the Ps are at least close to the same. Nowadays I drive more like I am 62 instead of 22 so that may help.

I don't think Michelin is making the 3+ any longer since the 4 is the subsequent design. If you are finding them, they're probably shelf inventory that's left. So as always, check the date code on the side of the tire.

I just installed a set of those Michelins, on our XJ-l V-6 supercharged car. The OE Pirellis were 7 years old, and the tread was down to a little less than 50%, so I figured it was time for a new set of sneakers for it. I was originally thought about the Good Year Eagle Exhilarate, but in the end, the Michelin had better "user ratings", and Discount Tire Direct had a promotion going on, so I bit the bullet, and spent the extra money for the Michelins. So far, we've put about 300 miles on them, and think they're good handling, good riding, and pretty quite. So, in essence, we're very satisfied with them.
