Tire tread tolerance

Hey Everyone! Sorry if this is already posted somewhere on the site (I didn't know how to search for it/what keyword/s to use), but can someone tell me what the acceptable rear tire tread height difference is for a 2011 Jaguar XJL Supersport? 275/35R20 on the rear. Just blew out one of my Pirelli Sottozero3 run-flat winter tires on the wonderful potholes here in Michigan (the RR)!! Other three tires are at 9/32. Tirerack shows brand new tread depth is 10/32. Am I creating a problem for myself if I just replaced the one tire? At over $400/tire, I'm not too excited about having to replace both rears for something that sits on the car only 3-4 months out of the year! Thanks!

I don't think that's a car-specific thing. I think it's either tire-specific, or much more likely (IIRC) a universal thing. That's where the old coin measurement is universally used.
There are wear bars on all tires, and if the tread is even with the wear bar, it's time to replace.
But if it's a matter of putting a new tire with a worn set, that's up to you probably.
With a staggered fitment, it's not so odd if you replace a front or back set independent of the other pair, especially since they can wear so differently. And that's assuming that the tire brand and maybe model would stay the same.
I've never seen anything about the difference from one tire to another though, but I'm pretty positive that anyone in the business of selling tires will say to certainly always change a set at a time.

I would be very surprised if you ran into any problems with just replacing the one tire.
If you think about it, the spare in the trunk is likely still "full size" and you can put that one on at any time even when your tires are at 2/32 and the car will handle it. So there is a lot of wiggle room in the calculations that are going on.

Same happened to me nearly 2 month back , had winter perellis on all four corners got a puncture front passenger side due to pot hole , had a problem sourcing the same tyre and would have to wait over a week for delivery to nearly all tyre sellers in my area , in the end I opted for a cheap fix bought a cheap Chinese winter tyre only cost £100 been on car since No problems

Thanks everyone! Because this car is RWD (not AWD, I know the tolerances are much tighter for those vehicles), I didn't think a difference of 1/32 would be a big deal - but figured I'd throw it out there to the experts!! I have owned this car for just over a year now and have loved every minute. Thanks again!!
