I'm not looking to update any hardware (ie. pull out displays and replace with new ones). Rather I am interested in upgrading the software so that my displays (ie. gauges) look like the ones on the newer models (ie. 2016 XJ).
They are digital and so, in my mind, this should be a relatively simple process....though it is likely more complicated than I think.
IMHO while Tesla gives updates and functional improvements, With Jaguar it's what you get when the car was built is what you will have as dealers are held to the "updates" that are tied to you VIN. Maybe you can find a 3rd party that can do it, but personally i like the old gauges as there are 3 and the tack is full sized and not shared with temp/fuel gauges. The one thing i do like is in Dynamic the tack moves to the center, but it is still shared with the temp/fuel gauges.
Hi,
Did you find any info regarding this changing. I am interested as well. And I have another questions. Can I update the software update to the new one. I have an xj 2010 and it has the first interface menu. From 2011 the cars has a different menu and some icons are changed. I will try to attach some pictures.
I have a 2011 and my screens are the same as yours. If they didn't change the hardware, then an upgrade seems feasible. If they did, then it may be tough to do.
I don't think the hardware is changed. This model of XJ (351) was manufactured from 2009-2012 and the next generation is from 2013-2015. Doind my research I've found this website Jaguar | Home | HERE to Find a product page then chose your model and year and you'll find that our navigation is Denso GEN 2.1 (hdd model) produced since 2009.So the hardware is the same the only thing that's not is the software. On this website we cand find only map updates it is not mentioned anyware about software update. Check it and tell me what do you think I may be wrong.Cheers

Interesting - it should be reasonably straightforward, then.
On my BMW 550i (F10) the dealer updated the software. It was as simple as plugging it in to the USB port and going through the process. I wonder if Jaguar dealers are able to do the same thing.
Does anyone have a service adviser that's particularly knowledgeable? Mine isn't.
I had asked about the software in the radio and what kind it was so I could check into possible doing some programming myself. I was told that it was the software that goes on a blackberry (forget the actual name). I was investigating to see what could be done about making the music portion of the radio more user friendly. Granted, from the sounds of things, I would have been re-writing the NAV stuff too and that was starting to get just a little too involved for what I think I could do by myself.
I've just sent an e-mail to Jaguar and ask them about the whole procedure. As soon as I have a reply I will post it.If I don't I will pay them a visit soon
As with many of the car manufacturers the base operating system (like unix is to linux) is GNX that is a Blackberry product, but the top layer GUI and controls are manufacturer specific.
I know how to get into the radio to do the updates. As for the software, not sure about that. If you are looking to make a few minor changes to the radio, you simpy press and hold the "return" button in the top left corner of the radio for about 10 seconds. You will see the screen change. From there, you can get into the radio at a deeper level and this will give you the option of playing with the treble and bass levels and many other things. Just a warning though, one of the buttons is for a radio update via the USB and this should not be pressed unless you have a new program ready for install.
Thanks....interesting reading. Background: I have the 2012 model year manufactured 10/11
Question: If I upgrade to a 2013/2014 screen will I see much improvement? The screen input is not slow, other than better looking graphics are there other benefits?
Remember Jaguar has zero interest in your car. It's now obsolete to them as a manufacturer.
There will be no updates or improvements from now on because they stopped making this model of XJ.
Same with all car companies. The business model is selling you a new car NOT fixing anything on your old one.
