I have a newly acquired Jaguar XJL - 2011, originally from USA, but now imported to Sweden.



Together with the car I also got a map update on a USB KEY PART NO. T1000-25775 with map over EUROPE 2017.

From Here (manufacturing the map update) I have now got the message that if the original map is not the European one I can not install the Europe map database.

Can anyone explain why there is a difference for a car with the original map for USA or for Europe. The GPS seems to work ok, but the navigator of course don’t show any map.

What can be the technical reason making it impossible to install European maps in a European Jaguar XJL originally sold in USA?

Is there really no way to update the navigator i my Jaguar XJL - 2011 with maps over Europe?

Using this thread to my question about navigation updates. I have read somewhere, that 2010-2016 x351 can be updated by Volvo maps. Just cant find the thread about it. Those maps are free to download and you can find 2020 updated maps for 2010 volvo navs. But i understand, that special code is needed to upload update to the car.
Is that update even possible, or it needs convertion?

Some Volvos use same IAM 2.1 unit as in JLR products. The IAM 2.1 unit are made by Ford, and thay sold it as OEM around industry, so its found in several Fords, Mazdas, Toyotas... The maps are provided former Naviteq, nowdays Here.
As far i understand the update includes more than just maps, like speech and voices etc, so i am not sure if the Volvo update would work directly with Jag, but propably the maps and routing files are same?
Volvo system have different main software and ofcource JLR codes based VIN number do not work on it. However: Removing IAM 2.1 unit and taken HDD out it is possible to copy update files to the JLR system without VIN. Safest to do it with JLR update package, since not sure if the Volvo update works or not.
Btw: If the update thru USB fails and unit bricks, it is possible to make it work again by this method. (i have saved 2 units)
If you happen to have PC motherboards lying around and have SATA to IDE adapter, then also this method take about half of the time what it take thru USB - including removing IAM 2.1 unit from car.

However: I bought the map update. It is not so expensive and i don´t want to unnessessary hasle with units in and out.
