Default Updates to 2012 interior

While researching used/certified XJ S/C's online, I came across a couple updates to the interior. I see that they added a "Phone" and "Nav" button right under the navigation screen and also moved the "Seat" button under the disc slot. I wonder if anyone else has noticed any changes to the 2012 cars. I see not all 2012's have this update. I wonder what the 2013 changes/updates would be?

Ask your dealer, we have been doing this update for customers cars and inventory that had come in prior to December build vehicles.

Do you have to pay for this update or is it included in the warranty????

Oh ok I will. I assume this must have been a common complaint from XJ drivers.. seems more intuitive! I hope this update would be included in the warranty.

They are doing this as a recall. It actually updates your touch screen with newer bigger logos, and the touch response is slightly faster from what I've noticed.

Are you actually changing out the console button assembly (adding the phone and nav buttons and moving the seat button) since this isn't just a software update? Does this apply to 2011 models as well?

From what i've seen they are doing this on 2011 models also, though we do not have any 2011 models left I have seen a few customer cars in back getting it done.

The update consists of the new hard buttons and software update.

2012 models built december build forward also get a new glass screen, but the glass screen is not being retrofitted, only the new hard buttons and software.

I'm having the update done tomorrow. It will be interesting to see the changes.

BTW, my dealer said that Jaguar is only covering the update on 2012 models, not 2011's.

Not sure I would want it done on my 2011 anyway--not worth dismantling the center stack to change out the buttons for the small benefit received IMHO. I certainly wouldn't pay for it. That's usually when gremlins start to appear after the dealer monkeys around with the wiring.

I have to agree. Falls under, "if its not broke don't fix it". Every other car I've ever had has gotten a case of the creaks and rattles after any front panel work. Humpty dumpty often doesn't always go back together. All due respect to the jag techs here.

Got my car back with the updates. The hardware change is helpful, with separate physical buttons for Phone, Nav and Seats. However, the software update is a major improvement. The entire menu and display system is changed. Buttons and graphics are much easier to see and use. System feels a bit faster. There are now more user controlled options. The entire system is much more user friendly. Probably still not on par with Audi, but a significant improvement over the old system. This is the update I was hoping to get when I decided to wait for a 2012 model. It feels like a new car.

BTW, Park Place service was great. I called to make an appointment last night. They scheduled me in this morning. All parts were available and the car was ready for pick up this afternoon.

However, I am a little miffed that they didn't contact me about this update. I had to find out about it on this forum. Thanks again to Jagger11!

Barry

I wonder if you can get the software update on a 2011 without the hardware update--that I would be willing to pay something for if it's as good an improvement as you say.

If anyone from jag usa is reading, I would also pay for a software upgrade, foregoing the tearing_apart_the instrument panel part

You should never have to pay for a software upgrade on a warrantied vehicle. Our 2011s are not obsolete and if the hardware has a software upgrade it should be at no charge.

Just spoke to my dealer and he pulled my vin up and there were no enhancements. With all the belly aching about the software in this car for Jaguar not to include 2011's is ridiculous!
