My XJ is at the dealership for a coolant leak and the 75k service. I have the 100k warranty, so I'm not too concerned. If it is the water pump, I have asked the dealership to replace any of the plastic tubes that tend to fail on higher mileage XJs. For those that have had a water pump replaced, did the dealership replace or suggest replacing any of the coolant tubes and pipes? Also I have the 5.0 N/A engine. Is was told (which really means nothing) that the 5.0 S/C engine has some aluminum coolant tubes which the 5.0 N/A doesn't. If this is true, I would like to upgrade from the plastic tubes if possible. On example is the crossover tube. The 5.0 N/A & 5.0 S/C have different part numbers for the cross over tubes. Is the 5.0 S/C crossover tube aluminum? I called the dealer and they had plent of stock of the plastic 5.0 N/A crossover tubes, but non of the 5.0 S/C crossover tubes. I was hoping to compare them side by side. Thanks for any info.
Do yourself a favor and have the remaining coolant drained, flushed and replaced with new using 60% anti-freeze and 40% distilled water. This will help extend the life of the new pump.
So yes, the S/C 5.0 has a different crossover pipe to the NA 5.0, and I can tell you that my crossover pipe is definitely alloy not plastic.
No chance the S/C alloy pipe will bolt up to the NA engine, the points marked 2 and 4 are very different.
OZxfr. Thanks for taking the time to post this information. Definitely not a direct replacement. Do you know which numbers are aluminum? A little cutting and welding might be in order.

Got the call from the dealer. Water pump needs replacing, covered by warranty. The car had 70k miles when it needed a new water pump (first one) Not bad in Jag years. They said the cross over pipe was fine (replaced prior), but I should replace the hose from the reservoir to the throttle body..... Cost $268.00us. Ouch! I accepted along with a wheel alignment...$150.00us and I asked for the rear differential oil to be replaced. $129.00us. I passed on the $68.00us wiper blades. I think XJSS posted a better brand wiper available. Next week I will be replacing the transmission fluid, filter and sleeve. I am a firm believer in changing fluids. Already did the power steering fluid last service. Should be good for another 70k miles.
