Just a note on the install?
I just waded in and pried the mirror cover off but the instructions I got with the lights are not exactly correct and there is a chance of plastic damage to the mirror cover.
The shop manual is not much help either?
But here is what is shows. They want you to remove the mirror glass first and then use a screwdriver to pry on the mirror cover in the right place.
Here is the mirror glass removal.
I did not remove the mirror but there are some plastic pins on the mirror cover that can be broken if it's just pried off.

interesting can you describe the process more, is it just prying out panels and replacing?
how do you feel about the functional usability in the SWB (also trying to envision what my passengers would actually use them for)? only seen them in LWB, but suppose the wood adds aesthetic

t's definitely usable on the SWB, even with the front seat far back. I did the driver's side after I took this picture. Let's face it, they're not a necessity, but I think they look good.

I'd be curious to know the answer as well, but not many used/breaker parts out there for facelift models with trays (I think standard on Autobiography?) which is what I hoped to update my burlwood trays to.
My XJL is in the dealership for the first time in quite awhile - I hate going to the *********** but in this case I finally took some time off work due to my wife's surgery and have the ability to leave the car there for some time. It's getting the roof creak TSB completed, I grilled the service scheduler to verify if their tech's had done this before and when I dropped the car off yesterday, the service advisor was worried no one had completed this due to employee turnover. I expressed the need to verify, if I'm paying dealer rates, I expect at least the technician to be the expert. He called back today stating that I have to wait 3-5 days for the kit (then why did I give you the TSB # and offer to prepay parts 2 weeks ago) and that one tech has done the TSB once before. I said give me that guy, and I'll wait. This whole experience didn't leave me a with a whole lot of confidence.

IMHO, they should have never gotten rid of the wood, it's classic, as is the leaper. Both should have come stock in my opinion. They also should bring back the XJ-L, they have nothing to replace it with, and I'm sure they still have the equipment ,so keep making them until they have a replacement. Believe it or not, I was looking for a big sedan when I found a frost blue XJ-L, with 20,000 miles on it, and grabbed it, and it was the biggest thing out there, which to me makes no sense. There are no shortage of SUVs, which are like pushing a barn door through the air, I know, I had a Lexus 460,which at it's best got between 11 and seventeen miles per gallon. Give me a big car that gets twenty five miles per gallon, and has lots of HORSEPOWER, since it can be aerodynamic, this shouldn't be hard, especially since I'm just going for twenty five mpg. And since I'm wishing, just build me a New Coupe de ville, one that looks like it was designed in the seventies, as it should get really great gas mileage, as we have better engines now, and it's more aerodynamic than a SUV.

Most of the snap crackle and pop is gone. I found a few conditions where I can faintly hear it so I'll foam tape the corners again and call it good.
I'll be contacting the dealer to resolve a few things, suede headliner was mighty dirty (obvious miss) and it looks like someone broke my rear vanity mirror. I hate going to the dealer.

Finally got myself a set of XJR Farallon wheels and new tires for the spring. Got them at a steal I might say, but buying new shoes is always yay/boo.
