What do the experts think of this XJ?
For those that have a good eye for these cars from years of ownership experience, what do you think of this car in terms of its condition, concerns, options, and market price?

Looks like a good one to me at a reasonable price and good mileage, not too much and not too little, and well specced.
Being at least six years old there are a few things to double check:
Tyres - age, tread depth and wear pattern. But being P-Zeros they really should be dumped anyway.
Brakes - check the wear/thickness on both pads and rotors, one or both could be due for replacement.
Battery - if still the original it is due for replacement.
Engine noise - any rattles etc could be problematic although this is an inherently rattly/ticky engine anyway.
If any or all of the tyres, brakes or battery need renewing use that to negotiate a lower price if you can.

Thanks. It is an online auction, so it's not for sale at $24K. With these auctions there's usually a lot of bidding in the last hour. There is an unknown reserve, so it may not sell at all.
What does everyone think is the market price for this car?

I would never buy a used luxury car of any make without a pre-purchase inspection, performed by a mechanic that knows these cars.
You are asking for an estimate of this car's value, and it is simply not possible to provide one without a thorough examination of the car. Notice the comments by the seller, "as far as we know" and "we believe it has no faults". Several members of this forum, including myself, have spent money on PPI, airfare and more on "cream puff" XJ's with glowing descriptions and photos. One such car was in Katy, and the seller's description vs. the PPI was laughable.
Late-model white XJL's are very popular cars. Unless you are capable of doing a lot of work on this car yourself and can buy it very cheap, I would not recommend rolling these $25-30k dice.

Yep, that's solid general advice to live by. However, I have bought quite a few cars sight unseen. Some have been great and others needed a lot work.
Yes, I am a massive DIY'er. I owned a couple of 2011 Jag XF 5.0L, a couple of Range Rovers, including a 2014 3.0L Supercharged, and even have a 65 E-Type. So I have familiarity with the brand and a lot of the mechanics of the XJ, but just don't have that deep experience with this particular model that I was looking for someone comment if they see anything obvious.
Even with only 30K miles, I do expect to need to do the usual things like pull the super charger to change coolant pipes, replace the guaranteed-to-rattle coupler in the snout, change the supercharger oil, clean the throttle body, maybe need to clean the oil residue buildup on the intake valves, change the transmission fluid and filter (a pain on these cars), all the other fluids, probably put on new rotors with ceramic brake pads, probably new tires, probably new battery, alignment, etc. With the low miles, hopefully the car is not due for things like new front wheel hubs or replacement lower control arms, but I am used to those things too.
What were the major things wrong with the one in Katy?

Is the whistling sound on deceleration normal in this video starting around 1:15? I see the engine revved pretty high so maybe it opened up something with the supercharger or exhaust that caused more whine. I didn't hear any whine when he was driving more relaxed in the beginning of the video:

It appears Bring A Trailer didn't do a good job this time of negotiating a reasonable reserve with the seller. His reserve was far above NADA and Kelly Blue Book values, and BaT is supposed to make sure that sellers don't set ridiculous reserves. It's not like eBay where you do whatever you want as a seller. It's very curated at BaT.

The Katy car was offered by Jaguar Houston, and the PPI was by Texas First Auto Inspections. Their report was 31 pages, and I would use them again. The deal-breaker was undisclosed body damage poorly repaired.
As good as this report was, my local indy shop would have done even better, as they know these cars inside out.

Those mufflers have mechanical exhaust valves which open up under load/revs, and that is what you can hear and what the driver comments about.

And easily and reasonably cheaply tuned to 640 hp, well more than the XJR figure of 550 hp.

I bought mine from an Auction, 2014 xj 5.0 sc. 98k miles. Sight unseen, no key, running unknown. $4500 us dollars, plus shipping. Paid a total of $5800 to my door. All it needed was a a remote key and water pump. Ive had it for year now with now issues. Took my chances and well worth it. Love the power and how elegant it is. Might keep it, might not. Dont know yet.
