The expensive Jaguar battery charger available from Dealer's is just a re-badged CTEK so there is no advantage in buying from JLR except for the installation kit. However this kit can easily be replicated. I've attached the fitting instructions which show the fitting kit, recommended harness connections and socket location.

Graham:

I will put that to good use. Many thanks. Hopefully the US/Canada border will be open in the next 30 days so I can get down there. The CTEK is scheduled to be delivered in Florida around May 13th, but will likely come earlier. Things are slow with the covid situation. Hopefully, there is some juice still left ion the battery, but I hear CTEK is a good product.

Murphman, if the AAA guy is there to not only jump start the car, but to be the expertise to connect the charger and relieve your friend from the responsibility, make sure that the AAA guy reads the CTEK manual and sets the proper mode. Is the battery an AGM (absorbed glass mat) in your model year? Set the charger accordingly.

I got 2 CTEK MXS 5.0s today, (ebay $85 each), as the XJ and F-Pace are barely driven at all at the moment. They took seconds to hook-up using the crocodile clips, and seem to be working as advertised.

I like the fact that they have an in-line fuse in the battery supply line, and that they auto detected the type of battery they were connected to. (XJ is lead/acid, F-Pace is AGM)

Out of an abundance of caution (phrase of the year), I connected to a GFCI outlet.

I've found that even the cheap float charger from Harbor Freight is effective. I keep one in the trunk of both my XJS and XJ6. I hooked them up directly to the terminals with the quick disconnect hardware. I also keep one available in the garage. I will plug in the charger in the morning and leave it on during the day. Usually the car is in the driveway or garage. After eight hours or so I will disconnect it. I haven't had any problems with the charger heating up or anything but I don't leave them on overnight. I have even charged up an almost completely dead battery in my Mustang before. During this lockdown I'm keeping an eye on all my vehicle's battery heath.

Hi Freddy J:

Without being able to have the manual or a visual of the battery my assumption is that it is an AGM battery. From the earlier replies and my review of the CTEK manual, I would set the CTEK at "normal" and hope for the best! CTEK was to be shipped May 13th, but now it looks like it will be delivered in Florida a week earlier. It would be nice to have the XJ ready whenever they lift the border restrictions which are still planned to be during the third week in May.

I appreciate all the advice, copy of CTEK manual, great pics of the process/steps and written instructions! Hopefully, the battery will be charged without having to purchase a new one.

Stuart I never really needed one before, but now that I am living in the country and not driving daily and the kids are home and their cars are sitting I thought I'd bite the bullet. But rest assured I am following your advice.

Big fan of Ctek and have four of them (2 of the 7002's).
The CTek (56-353) MULTI US 7002 is a much better buy in my opinion, for $20.00 more you get more amps and the "Supply feature".
I have used the Supply feature to save me time as I don't have to reset everything.

I have a Deltran wired into my F Type so it keeps both batteries topped off over the winter. No problems from the charger or car.

So I've hooked up two permanent connectors with the LEDs to show battery condition and labeled them Stop/St and AGM. and have only needed to use the CTEK on the main battery as the Stop/Start shows green all the time. Great setup. Thanks to Stuart.
