Window Reset Has Not Worked - Now What?
I know there are several threads around how to reset your window. I have done this several times and it has not worked. It did work on my front sunroof sunshade though.
My problem is with my passenger window. It rolls down just fine, but when I got to roll it up, it it goes up about 3 inches and goes back down all by itself. It will do this twice and then on the 3rd try to raise the window, it will go all the way up.
I don't feel like it is an issue with the track or the motor, because it goes up as it should every time on the third try.
Since the reset procedure has not seemed to solve my issue, I disconnected my battery ground for 20 minutes, reconnected and it still has the issue. I'm at a loss now as to what to try next. Any thoughts?
Cheers!

Not sure what is causing it. Someone told me it was a defective sensor but I have not looked into it. It is just not worth the trouble of taking the door apart to fix it considering how few times that window is ever rolled down. Yeah its annoying... but not THAT annoying.
If the door card ever needs to come off for something else then I will investigate and hopefully fix it.
Maybe I will get lucky and someone else will figure it out first.

I've had this same experience with my wife's XJ, but I don't recall if it was the rear or front of the passenger side window.
I recall thinking that the anti-trap sensor might have been overly-sensitive.
But after a bit of perseverance and several re-tries, it did finally give-up & finally reset to correct position & operation.

Yes it's the anti-trap system. I forgot the OP's message that he have to do it 3x for thw window to go fully up
Instead of doing this "Once the window is up, hold the switch up for 10 seconds or you hear a click".
Try this instead When the window is in the fully closed position, hold the switch up for 10 seconds, then release the switch, again swith up the for another 10 seconds and let go. Hold the switch up again for another 10 seconds and let go. Now press the switch down until the window is down and press up the switch. The window will automtically goes up

It also made for some anxiety when the window stopped operating entirely using the buttons on either front door. Turned car off and waited a while then started car again and window resumed its 3X to get it up. The window seemed to get very confused by all the up/down/hold I was doing.

The reason it get confused, because you got wrong instructions.
From Owners Handbook, page 157: (read carefully, it will not work any other way)
(start with window half open)
WINDOW RESET
The windows will need to be reset if the battery is disconnected, becomes discharged or power
supply is interrupted. Once the power supply is restored, reset the windows as follows:
1. Close the window fully.
2. Release the switch, then lift it to the close position and hold for two seconds.
3. Open the window fully.
4. Release the switch, then push it to the open position and hold for two seconds.
5. Lift and release the switch to operate the one-touch function.
6. Repeat the procedure on each window.
Good luck.

I went out to the garage and tried this. No success in my case.

Now what?
Go online and get a new window regulator. The symptoms clearly indicate that a new mechanism is needed. Cheap substitutes exist and do sometimes even work, but quality control is shoddy and so results may vary. If you feel comfortable doing the door window replacement procedure twice, you may as well choose the cheap aftermarket parts. If you are lucky the cheap thing will work as the original version. It's possible, but not guaranteed.
