Default Windshield replacement

I am new to this forum, so I apologize if this question has been answered before. I did a search but couldn't find an answer. I own a 2013 XJ. I need to have the windshield replaced. The Jag repair shop wants to charge me $640 to calibrate the Image Processing Module 'A' (IMPA) after installing the new windshield. My insurance company says that my car doesn't have an IPMA module on the windshield. I don't have any kind of lane changing aids. The only thing on the windshield is the headlight sensor to dim my high beams. My question is, do I have to have the IPMA calibrated for the high beam sensor? The Jag repair shop said I needed it because of some kind of gel package in the rain sensor, which seems like BS to me. Thanks for any help.

Is it an insurance job? You mention your insurance company but also say "the shop wants to charge me $640" so I'm kinda confused.

If it's an insurance job, let the shop make the case to the insurance company. Either they're BSing you, or they'll show the insurance company what they need to approve the claim.

I think there is some errors in their listings? I had my 2014 XJR windshield replaced and none of that applied? My car does have the automatic high beam stuff too. Yours is one year earlier so I think your right. Your car does not have any of that?

I've had the windshield replaced twice on my 2012, and watched the process. Both times only step required after replacing the glass was to attach and plug in a new water sensor for the wiper system.

I found out that the rain sensors are in the middle clear area of the blacked out portion of the windshield, under the housing around the mirror. I also do have the automatic high beam system which is built into the mirror. However I have something else that is mounted to the windshield just to the right of the mirror housing. It is a 2" x 3" x 1" thick box with wiring going into it. About a month ago I had Safelite come out to replace my windshield (with an aftermarket one) and that windshield didn't have the blacked out portion that the mystery box sits behind. That noticed it immediately and told me it was the wrong windshield and I would probably need a OEM one. They called the little box a "condensation sensor". I haven't been able to find any mention of it in my owners manual, nor in any website for Jaguar parts. After 4 weeks of not getting any further replies from Safelite, I canceled them. I called my local Jag dealership and they told me they don't service cars more than 6 years old. I called a certified Jag repair shop (the one I mentioned that wants to charge the $640 to calibrate the rain sensor) and they won't deal with my insurance company plus the window is back ordered and they don't know when one will be available (it is $1200). So I called a local windshield replacement company and they can install an aftermarket windshield for about $600 that has the proper blacked out portion surrounding the mirror. My question for those of you who have had your windshield replaced is does the new window come with rain sensors already mounted or do they just remove them from the old windshield and transfer them to the new? Also anyone know what the little box to the right of the mirror is and does it also come with the windshield? I sent a message to my installer about the box but haven't heard back from him yet. If the box is a condensation sensor you would think that it would be part of the AC system to remove humidity from the car and there would be some mention of it somewhere.

I "think" it might be the sensor for the automatic windshield wipers? Have always heard it called a rain sensor so I am a bit confused about the condensation sensor but I think we are talking about the same thing?

This is on an XF but it appears to be the same as the XJ? Has a picture to help too.

Here are a couple of photos of the box mounted on the inside of the windshield to the right of the mirror. It isn't the rain sensor, that is mounted inside the mirror housing.

There's nothing like that on my 2012 MY, only the mirror housing with the rain sensor inside.

Yes nothing like that on my 2014 either?
I do have an EZ tag in that spot.

My car has the Portfolio Package. Maybe it comes with that. The only thing in the package that might be involved with it is 4-zone climate control. If it is a humidity/condensation sensor, maybe it is tied in with the climate control system. My glass installer is coming tomorrow, so I will see what he does.

My 2014 XJR is also 4 zone so maybe it's for something else?
The car has a temperature and humidity sensor behind the small grill on the drivers side of the dash.

Since we already have a humidity sensor I wonder if that is for some kind of after market device?
But it does look factory?

I don't think it is aftermarket. In your post above, your link to "Rain Sensor on Window" also shows it. The first responder, Kenbowen, shows what I think is inside the box I have. His third photo shows the curved plastic piece that looks like what shows inside the box "grill" in my posted photo of the box. The second responder, BlckCat, shows a photo of the same box I have above his EzPass. My installer will be here soon, so hopefully he can just transfer it over to the new windshield.

I just wanted to post up that the new windshield was installed today without a problem. They were able to remove the "box" from my old windshield and install it on the new one. The installer had never seen one like this before, but he said it was a condensation/humidity sensor. He said that every car other then a Jag that he has worked on has the sensor in a different location in the car.
