Default Winter Mode

I never used winter mode before but I tried it yesterday. If I am correct, this is full-time AWD with a 70/30 split rear to front and it starts in 2nd right? Will it ever change from 70/30? I can actually feel the transfer case engaging when I activate it. I set it at a stop-sign and manually went to first but only did it once so not sure I had an increase, decrease or no change in acceleration.

Has anyone tested out this mode and can comment?

1) the car will never start in 1st unless you're in dynamic mode. In winter and normal mode it will always start in 2nd

2) Winter mode will dull the accelerator so that you're not aggressively accelerating

3) not sure about the 70/30 split.

Hello....

I finally used winter mode yesterday. Good for traction but I noticed something odd. My power steering assist dropped way down. It was to the point where I needed two hands to crank the wheel when parking. Switch to dynamic or normal modes restored the power steering assist. Is this a feature or do I have a problem here?

I don't see how that would ever be a design feature.

One other thing to note....earlier in the year I had my BCM replaced. It was a total nightmare that I will save for another post. When I picked up the car, the power steering had very little assist...in all drive modes. When I got it home, SSD said the power steering curve calibration was not performed. I guess the tech forgot to do this after the BCM replacement! The power reach and rake of the steering wheel did not work either. I ran both the wheel and power steering calibration functions and everything started working...so I thought. Seems like just winter mode is effected.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I use winter mode whenever it is icy or snow on the ground. When the snow gets deep, it really helps. Limited affect on steering, but does reduce the responsiveness. I've noticed it improves traction, but also affects breaking and throttle acceleration. I think it is a great feature.
