Default X351 driver seat stuck

My brother wanted to borrow my car today only to find that he couldn't move the seat back.
I've never had to move it since I bought it as I have set it in memory 1 and left it.
When I tried to move it back or forward, it just will not move.
All the other switches like the lumbar support, back rest, etc all work fine.
Has anybody had this issue and is it expensive to fix?
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks

Guy

Is there any noise, like it is stalling or cutting out, or is it silent?

The seat movement (height, front-back and tilt) are all controlled by the driver seat module. The back recline is as well. (For the 12 way seats the cushion extend and headrest height movement are also included.) Lumbar controls are hardwired from the switches to the pumps, although if you have the massage function that does share control with the driver seat module.

As you mention the back recline function still works it does not appear to be a simple fuse problem as they use the same supply circuit up to the drive sear module itself. (Central junction box - behind rear seat back - fuse 42, 30A.) If the recline is not working and I misunderstood your description then check the fuse as the symptoms would fit.

As there are different motors involved in each movement (height, front-back, tilt, recline, cushion and headrest) that are individually wired to the driver seat module then it is unlikely that you have multiple failed motors or damaged harnesses all at the same time. The common links are the fused supply circuit (all or nothing) and the driver seat module itself. There are sensors involved too, but one failure should not affect the other movements.

If the fuse does not apply because you have one or more of the motors still functioning then I would remove the seat and check the connectors to the driver seat module before replacing it. You can do this without removing the seat from the car, but access will be tight if the seat is currently positioned such that you can't get clear access to the bolts at the extreme end of each track. The fronts are star bolts, the rears are normal bolts. You can get onto the rears with a spanner (a spanner wrench will make the task easier) but the fronts will be a pita if the seat is down and forward. As the seat contains airbag circuits and explosives disconnect the negative and attached battery monitor from the battery in the boot and drape a towel over the latch so it cannot be accidentally closed with the battery disconnected. With the bolts out you can lean the seat backwards onto the rear seat cushion and easily access all the connectors to check they are seated well and to look for any harness damage. (If you want to remove it from the car you'll also need to remove the seatbelt.) If there is crap in the tracks or on any moving gears/rods it is a good idea to fully clean them and reapply a suitable grease. Check for money/coins that may have wedged under the drive screws.

Remember to torque the bolts correctly when reassembling. They should be 47Nm or 35 lb-ft.

If all is ok there then a dealer or independant can hook the car up to the SDD diagnostics software and run a driver seat module calibration process which will attempt to reset the module and test the momvements. They can also check for any stored fault codes which might indicate a failure of the driver seat module. If that does need replacing the new one will need to be programmed to the car. There are many different specs of module so used ones are hard to source. The best way to check compatibility is to compare the vehicle specs by entering the VINS into https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com, then cross referencing with the JEPC.

Unbolted the seat, unplugged and re-plugged each connector, it now works!
