XJ 3.0 SC Water Pump Replacement
2013 XJ 3.0 SC water pump needs to be replaced. While I note the 5.0 has several plastic pics that should be swapped out as well, is this the same for the 3.0?
Anybody have some pics, write-up or DIY info?
The WP seems straight forward but like the VW and Audi vehicles, all the plastic crap breaks, cracks, crumbles when touched, need to know what to plan for.
Appreciate your feedback.

Yes, it is a friend's vehicle and it was leaking. Also the rear O-Ring for the oil cooler was beat, flattened out and it slid off too easily in my opinion so he is going to pick up a new one.
I do have a question however, on the plastic tube that goes from the water pump to the oil cooler, should the tab be facing up or down? It seems to fit properly on the pump when it is facing down however when I removed the pump it was facing up.
The tab seems to fit better when it is in a shaved spot on the water pump but then it faces down on the engine side, when removed it was definitely pointing up.
Which is correct?

@Yvette Shields It sounds like they want to do the proper repair including lines and hoses that can become brittle. Can they send send you the recommended repairs and parts list and we can give you a proper evaluation? You need to understand an XJ is not an inexpensive car to own, but there are few cars as much fun to own and drive.

Yes that's super, thanks. I hope my water pump goes during the CPO extended warranty. But not when I'm far from home
I'm afraid repairs like this are typical on the German brands too. My Audi A6 water pump failed at 60K, and the cooling system was shot on my BMW 525 at 50K. The water pump was fine, but the radiator and expansion tank were both cracking.

So they changed out the "Y" pipe and upper manifold/pipe at the same time so I wonder if you had the old 2 piece crimped style. it's a shame given the amount of labor that the didn't change the rear heater manifold and flexible pipe running under the supercharger to the throttle body. It would only be around $150 for parts and a small amount of labor and then you'd have all new plastic in the hard to reach places. When I did mine it cost around $600 for the pump, gaskets, "y" pipe, front upper manifold and rear heater manifold, heater manifold to throttle body hose and coolant reservoir bleed pipe. Plus a couple of days in the garage.

The water pump is the number one failure on ALL 5.0L engines. That has been the only repair I have ever had on my 2014 XJR and have owned it over 2 years now.
It went out at 32K miles and we have seen much lower mileage than that on other failures.
At last count I believe we are on revision #7 of the water pump.
And be sure and use the latest 3909 pump as is posted above on the receipt.

2015 XJ 3.0 41,500 miles water pump leak/failure
For all you x351 3.0 owners who think that the water pump leak / failure only happens to 5.0's; I strongly suggest you reconsider and have your coolant system at least pressure checked. I pulled up to a traffic light in my 2015 XJ 3.0 only to have the front half of the car engulfed in steam and that sickening sweet smell of coolant boiling off a hot engine thinking....Aw crap, this can't be happening to me, I'm not a 5.0! But thank you God it happened as I only have 7 weeks left on my CPO warranty. Pump, rear coolant manifold assembly, outlet pipe, gaskets, hoses, coolant, engine bay wash, car loaner, 1.5 day turn around......all no charge, no hassle, no attitude (actually they were very pleasant)! Merry Christmas to me!!
