While performing a front brake job on my wifes 2012 XJL one of the driver side lug nuts snapped trapping the wheel on the vehicle. I have restored multiple classic cars and built and raced drag cars my entire life and have never seen anything like this! My first thought was to remove the stainless steel nut cover and use my TIG machine to weld the nut back to the remaining lug in the wheel but determined the risk of damaging the wheel to be to high. After searching the forms this appears to be a major issue on all Jags equipped with this 2 piece lug design. Shops tend to over tighten with impacts and weaken the lug nut and can snap during the removal process. I ended up using a 3/4" hole saw (without the center guide bit) to cut through the remaining lug nut and caused no damage to either the wheel stud or wheel. After a quick trip to my local NAPA I was able to find a replacement 1 piece lug nut ( NAPA part # 641-1548). This lug nut is a 1 piece design with a 21 mm head that fits nicely in the factory wheel and being slightly longer it fits deeper into the wheel which is much stronger. I changed all the lugs on my vehicle to this larger stronger design to ensure this never happens to me again! I would never want this to happen on the interstate in some remote location with no cell service!!
Gorilla has finally made a lug nut specific for the Jaguars and they even have it in Black. I got most my info from the F-Type guys.
I was able to purchase mine through Discount Tire for under $100.00
