Thumbs up XJ mods

So I spent the last two days at work doing researching and looking for a XJ Supersport because I don't want to pull the trigger on a 2013 XJR at $45K as I'd put about 50K miles a year on her.
It seems from my research that all 5.0s/c engines are capable of significant horsepower gains with a tune, pulley change and maybe a larger intercooler. Am I right? Mid 500s?
Thanks,
Bill

Bill, if you look on the home page of this site, there is a company offering a bolt on kit that you can get for your car that will push it up to 650 hp and around 600 ft-lbs of torque (if I remember the numbers correctly). This consists of a new supercharger pulley, new ECU tune, and a new exhaust system with high flow cats. Granted, it is a little pricey at around $10,000 for the whole kit.

If you just do the pulley and talk with a local tune shop, they should be able to get you up to around 620 hp for around $1000 or so. Atleast one member here has gone that route with happy results.

Yeah the nice thing is that the F Type V8s and XF-R/S use the same 5.0 SC as our cars, so like Thermo said just a tune and some bolt ons can get you pretty good HP numbers. I think anything you can do to those cars, engine wise, you can do to ours.

There are a few members modding and going for bigger numbers, i think Matt *** and clubairth are 2 of them, they were just at an event in Texas.

But it is definitely possible. Remember, the XJ575 uses the same motor, and there is even more to be had on top of that.

Default Thanks guys

I'm narrowing down the field and about to pull the trigger on a 2013 XJ in caviar I believe ( plum color.)
I sold my 2000 XJR a few years ago after the water pump cratered and warped a head, and i've been thinking about getting another every since. After doing a little reading here and seing the hp gains for so little money I am all in. I live North of Houston and spend a lot of time on the Texas Autobahn (Hwy 99) and can't wait to surprise the boys in their cute little Mustang GTS and an occasional M or AMG. I drive a Marauder now and although it looks menacing its all bark and no bite.
Y'all keep the go info coming.
Thanks

Check out Velocity Motorsports. They are having a winter sale and i think a lot of the XF guys have used their tunes and are please. There is a thread about it near the top here.

I do love the caviar color, its pretty awesome and you rarely see it around. Im not totally sold on those style wheels though, but thats just my opinion.

Do all XJRs come with the chrome trim blacked out like that?

No, the XJR doesn't come with blacked out trim, don't know if that's an option or not. That car in pics is not an XJR, likely a 5.0 SC from what I can tell, as they've deleted most of the badges. The "murdered out" look isn't for me, but to each his own! Love that caviar color though!

Major exterior difference between XJR and XJ:
Hood
Front side vents
Front lower skirt
Side vents
Side body skirts
Rear spoiler
Quad pipes
Emblems
Wheels
The 2016 up XJR can come from dealership with blacked out chrome.

All exterior parts can be purchased to pull off the look but they are not cheap…Example below

Here is an example of the Quarter Panel glass molding for a 2016 XJR
C2D13551 Chrome MSRP $256.50
C2D51735 Black MSRP $515.00

I live close to Hwy 99 and it's a very excellent road surface!
Have you seen the video where they ran a Vette to over 200 mph on it before it was opened?
The driver said it was smoother than any race track he had ever been on.

Well I just ran the Texas mile and I would be careful about any Mustang comments because those cars are beyond easy to mod to the moon!
Had several doing over 200 mph in the standing mile. These days performance is everywhere and looks can be deceiving!

I've seen a few videos on the Texas Mile and it looks like a blast! I'm turning in my vacation request now. Thank you guys for all the

I've seen a few videos on the Texas Mile and it looks like a blast! I'm turning in my vacation request now. I've also herd about a group of guys with high end cars that circle Houston on Loop 610 waiting for an opening to open up their cars and race. Those guys are nuts. Non for me thanks.Thank you guys for all the information.

The highway near where I leave - German Side . it is illimited, means no speed limit at all, it is very frequently that I drive flat out, last time 303km (188mph) with my Maserati, we ( me and friends became used to it, not a big thing for us)
the incredible thing, it is extremely rare to see a car accident in that highway, so speed it is not an accident cause, it is people education, Germans are careful and look the mirrors, don't drive bumper to bumper... it is a pleasure.
it happened to me to pass a police car at about 265kmh ( around 165mph) and.. even though it makes always bizarre... i just kept going.. was no speed limitation so... and nothing happened. But if they see you too close to another car.. or passing from right left like in a race circuit .. you are done.

here with my BMW M6 V10
just a normal day going to work

You have a Marauder? A Mercury Marauder?

Wow. Me too.

See if you can find a Trilogy Supercharger kit (used, they’ve been discontinued) and you’ll give that car some bite! Mine has a Trilogy and it runs a whole lot like my Jaguar... although as you’ve noticed the Jaguar has lots more left in it. Alternatively, get the Merc a tune from Lidio at Alternative Auto in Detroit or try Mo’s Speed Shop. Either will give the car a lot more of an edge... but don’t turn it loose on the Lone Star Autobahn until you upgrade the poorly balanced driveshaft!

Geoffrey,
What a great way to start the day. If that was my drive to work i'd never make it and instead just keep driving. That looks like a blast, but adjusting your Go Pro at 150 mph is a little dangerous isn't it? Keep it between the ditches.

GP,
Yes sir I drive a Marauder daily on 99 and enjoy the heck out of it. I'd love to find a complete Trilogy kit but they are few and far between, and I hear the Kenny Bell sucks. I bought my car in Dallas 3 years ago with 100k on the clock and she is now at 250k, so I don't dare stress the motor too much. However once I pull the trigger on an XJ s/c the Marauder is going under the knife and i'll go through the drivetrain and add more power. I've done the K&N, sway bars, KYBs, dropped the front end an inch and installed Mo''s tune. It''s a great car that starts lots of conversations but she needs a rest.
