Default XJ8L supercharged fuelling misfires

Hello fellow members. PUSSS is sick again but not immobilised. After one new CAT converter, old problem of horrendous misfires and new code of “intermittent fuelling” has appeared BUT ONLY when fuel level drops to just below halfway on the gauge. No problem if I keep him filled up. I understand that this may be a fuel pump issue. PUSSS is a late 2008 XJ8L supercharged. Do I need a new fuel pump or is it a pick up problem that can be fixed? Any help greatly appreciated. Fuel pump part no would be appreciated VIN is SAJKC82L98TH28212

From the sounds of things, it is sounding like you have a small hole in your pickup tube and that is causing the pump to suck in air, resulting in the pump not being able to flow sufficient fuel to the motor. At this point, I would be starting with doing a fuel line pressure test to make sure that you have a rock solid reading (preferable to do this with the conditions that result in the code) and if the numbers are jumping all over the place, then open up the fuel tank and check out the fuel pump/replace if needed.

Also, as I recall the fuel tank is split in two and a connection hose can be crimped. Once the fuel gets to half way, and if the connection hose is crimped, it only lets a bit of fuel in.
I had this happen on a XJR (I don't remember the year, but was around 2007) and once the tank dropped to around half, it would stall right out. Dealer had to drop the tank and found that the connection hose had been twisted from the factory and the flow just got worse and worse.
Lawrence.
