XJL gear selector problem

XJL gear selector problem
Hello all. Brand new to the forum and a first time Jag owner. I have the v8 Portfolio XJL (2013) and am having a strange problem with the gearbox dial. On some mornings after starting the gearbox raises as per normal but then descends. Car is still running but the knob is retracted. Usually have to shut the engine off and on a few times to get the selector to stay upright.
Anyone have this issue?

I have an XJ too and not had this problem.
But I would be interested to see what the issue was and how it was rectified.

The shifter issue never happened to my 2013 XJ, but I did have the water pump replaced under warranty - a known issue. Love the car, gorgeous inside and out, great fun to drive, highly recommended. I didn't expect to get over 16mpg city with the 5.0L SC 470HP engine. Jekyll/Hyde personality, deceptively fast. You need to test drive a 2013 in Dynamic Mode and you'll be convinced. Just my opinion.

I had the same issue with my 2012 xf. I would have to restart the car too a few times and that usually worked. One thing to note is that I could still shift gears if the knob went down. You just have to get enough friction on top of the shifter, which isn't that hard to do.
They had to replace the shifter 2 times and it still acts up sometimes but I haven't noticed it lately.
I noticed more when it was cold outside. I personally thought it was a brake release issue.

Wholly Cow, that sounds like an odd problem!
But on the positive side, with the selector dial down, you can see the gear indicators better.
Where they sit forward of the knob, when the knob is raised, it blocks view of the position.
It would have been easier to view if they had put the P R N D S just aft of the knob, to provide an unblocked view.
