My (formerly) pristine '17 XJL got clipped by a new driver (16 years old...got her license 3 days ago) who ran a stop sign. Fortunately, nobody was injured and the damage was very minor as I was watching her car closely as I approached the intersection as she seemed to be closing on the stop a little too quickly. I was able to stop but she simply didn't even look and grazed the front of my car. So, no body panels involved--just bumper cover, a parking sensor, and the lower and upper grille and surround. While it's always a bummer, I am looking at this as an opportunity to murder-out the front end (a little more like my F-Type), which I have always wanted to do anyhow. I have been able to find the Grille and Surround in Black, but have NOT been able to find those (not sure what you call them) chrome "blades" in the lower corners of the bumper cover. Anybody ever seen those? Additionally, haven't looked for them yet, but what about the fender vents?
The state trooper was exceedingly merciful and did not cite her for the accident. Arguments can be made both ways. In the end, this young woman handled herself very well and her first question when she ran over to me was "Are you OK?" as opposed to trying to shift blame or anything. She promptly took full responsibility and never once tried to blame anybody but herself. Between the very minor damage and her "stand-up" approach, in addition to the fact that a ticket would cost her a revocation of her license for over a year, the officer noted that she was fully "at fault" on the report but did not cite her. I think she will be in plenty of unforgettable trouble from her dad in any event.

Bummer! However, your forward thinking may have saved a lot worse! Good on the LEO too, for giving her a second chance for something relatively minor.
Nice cars BTW! Can you not save the 'blades off the damaged bumper?

Indeed, I have received my share of grace and mercy in my lifetime so I was not unhappy that, in light of the good outcome, the trooper spared her a double portion of heartache. I definitely can save the "blades", but was actually looking to replace all of the chrome on the front with Black, so I would need to source a new grille and surround, as well as, black blades. Wasn't sure if there was a "black pack" option for this model year?
I feel our pain! I was "tapped' from behind in the old XK8, I guess the impact was under 5mph....closer to 3. By the time they had finished putting the car on the "Specialist Jig" etc. etc ...and 81 days of rental. The bill was over $18,000. My point is, you need to extract the lost value of your car vs pre-accident value from your
nsurrance company.
A close friend had something similar happen to his previous vehicle and the best thing is to speak to their parents and keep it away from the Insurance companies.
If the young ladies parents can make it happen, have them pay you in cash for your damages and skip the insurance company.
No one wins when you involve the Insurance companies.
No matter what they say, it will hit your carfax if they pay out a dime.
I don’t think they come in black, so you’ll need them dipped or similar. If it helps, the part #s are C2D43044, C2D43043 and referred to as bumper trim blades.
