Default Cruise Control Assembly Operation Question

Hello!

I'm FINALLY getting my XJ12 back together after months of waiting for parts to show up. Last night I was putting the throttle and cruise control assembly back in the engine bay and I noticed the rod that actuates the vacuum diaphragm seems to slide in and out of its "bushing" and dosent push the diaphragm in and out. Is this how it's supposed to work or is the bushing supposed to hold onto the rod and not slide in and out of the bushing?

G'day Swagger,

Yeah it is vacuum in the diaphragm which pulls on the rod which in turn moves the throttle and not the other way around. The looseness allows the throttle to move with out binding the cruise control mechanism.

Cheers,
Jeff.
