Interference engine or not?
Recently i became fascinated with v12s and found that jaguars seem to be the chespest way to get one. Now i have started looking on craigslist and such and found a listing for two jaguars atm i dont. Know if they are v12s or not but on the off chance they have v12s in em. I wanna know if these engines are interference engines or not cuz one of them is missing chain, supposedly and i quote "all that is NEEDED is to put back the timing chain in & fire up she goes. House WILL NOT be available to use to attach the chain but can guaranteed that it works if assuming u did it correctly" if its an interference engine then it cant b fixed with just a chain. Obviously, but i cant find any info that says that is or isnt. Mayeb im using the wring terms when searching but when i do find a list jaguar is not on it but im just double checking on here.
Thanks for any answers in advance.

HE V-12 engines I believe are not interference, I am not sure about pre HE. I personally have not heard of a HE engine dropping a valve into a piston. Even a tensioner chain failure with HE's are extremely rare. Dropped valve seats seem to be far more popular. The Jag with a broken chain should be all but free, otherwise move on to the next one.

Just in case you are interested. I have a running V12, and the Transmission out of my 1989 XJS parts car. I'm located in NE. Arkansas. And would make somebody a deal, if you're close enough. My advice would definitely be to start with a running one. And not someone else's headache. I've had and bought hundreds of projects over the years, and it's always easier if it ran, before I got it.

Is $900 cheap enough? Mine was $900 and all it needed was a fuel pump. If it was so simple to throw a timing chain on it, the owner would’ve done that. The tensioner alone which always has to be replaced if the timing chain is disturbed is $350. You have to borrow a special jig from JCNA to set the chain. Installing and removing the timing chain cover is a giant pain in the *** also. Getting to the front of the engine is a giant pain in the ***. I haven’t seen the craigslist ad but this car sounds like scrap! Pay scrap prices, 250 bucks, Max!

If it's any help, I have a son in Illinois just south of Chicago, and I could easily bring it there, if that would help?

Well maybe not everything is a pita 😂 the radiator cap is pretty accessible. But there are two kits to confuse things.
