power steering pressure switch
Hi all, my 1995 XJ12 power steering pressure switch is leaking fluid. Tried dealers, and everyone else I could find on the net to find a replacement. Part # is LNA1626AA and is not available.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Richard.

Over the years lots of cars have used p/steering pressure switches. I'm betting (small bet, mind you!) that Jaguar used an off-the-shelf switch.
Is the switch marked in any way? Anything that might look like a manufacturer's part number or identification, or perhaps a pressure rating?
Cheers

Hi Doug, thanks for the response. The markings are, LNA 1626AA 4126A. The part # is the LNA 1626AA. Not at all sure what the 4126A refers to, but could be the PSI as it fits on the high pressure side. What are you thinking???
According to the Jag dealers I have spoken to this switch was only used by Jaguar on the 95, 96 and 97 models of the XJ12.
I put feelers out to a guy who used to be the service manager for the local Jag dealer before he retired. I have seen online pics of power steering switches that appear to have the same electrical connection as mine, I would need to check the thread for the end which screws into the line.
One supplier is trying to obtain the switch from England, don't know if he will be successful. It seems kind of stupid that you could no longer use a car because of the failure of a $35 to $40 switch.

I meant the manufacturer's part number, not Jaguar's, sorry

Google "4126A pressure switch" and see what happens

I sorta doubt it'll come to that. If worse comes to worst you could always remove it and cap the hole.
Not sure in the case but, typically, the P/S switch simply signals a slight increase in engine speed when the pressure hits xxx-amount, as in a parking situation

Hopefully their parts division has some sort of networking/locating capability to find one that has been sitting on a dealer's shelf for years...collecting dust.
Sadly this is one of the snags with owning a low production model. Lack of demand = no justification to continue offering replacement parts. XJR/6 owners face the same issue at times.
Maybe you can find a used one?
Good luck

Sure it will all work out Doug. I was fortunate enough a year ago to pick up a 91 Sovereign with no title as a parts car. $400, it was a steal for a complete car. Shame xj6 and xj12 parts don't interchange.
I have a friend who used to be the service manager for the Jaguar dealership in Orlando and he is trying his sources for me also to obtain a used one.
As you can see my car is quite nice looking, so not about to park it.

Thankyou kind sir, sadly I bought this piece of junk laptop last year after my Tosh was just too old to update the software. Won't mention the brand here, but I did tell the manufacturer I thought it belonged in the scrapyard and they really didn't seem too bothered. The screen began separating within the first 3 months, keys frequently do nothing, so yep. thanks, I'm not dyslexic it's just this piece of junk.
For the record, and I hope I am allowed to say this here, Jagbits came through with a used pressure switch. That company really does try and help people.

Hey Doug, been doing hours of research on this switch. My F150 one looks identical. same electrical connector, form of connection to fluid line. Ford uses that same switch on F250, and almost every vehicle from way back when to current day. As a matter of just being daft, while I am waiting for my used replacement to arrive in the mail,I am thinking of buying a Ford one and trying it. Ant thoughts???

hi Doug, bought the F150 power steering switch at the local Advance Auto part store. $25.55 including the sales tax. It is an absolute direct fit for the electrical connector and for the thread into the power steering pressure line.
Have yet to take the car out on the road, but no more leak of course, and having bled the system, I did a little complete lock without touching the gas pedal and the engine did not give any sign it had a problem. No stalling etc, in fact worked just fine.
Only thing I have left to do is to disconnect the battery to clear the check engine light from the computer's memory, which came on because of the leak.
Just have to pull my books out to remember how to reset the alarm system after I reconnect the battery.
