XJ12 values
Good morning, i recently acquired this 95 XJ12 and was wondering what the value is on these. I realize blue book value are somewhat undervalued on specialty models so just curious to see what enthusiasts think about values on the XJ12. This is a 95 Moroccan red/ parchment interior with 40000 miles. It has a sealed tool kit in the engine compartment. There are a few minor door dings that can be removed with a dent removal service. Interior is in near perfect shape. Everything works as it should

Looks like a nice one!
These can be a real bargain of you find a good one.
I've seen some 'fair' examples listed for $3500 or so over the years. Buying one at this end of the market is very iffy.
I don't know what the market is today but 10-12 years ago it seems like $10,000 would buy the best one on the planet. Maybe less.
Others with more recent experience will chime in
Cheers

I’d say $8000 max on Craigslist, maybe $15000 on bringatrailer. If someone had $6000 in their hand, I’d take it. Venue matters. I don’t know if you can assume bring bringatrailer money. Bat rejected an XJS I thought was right up their alley (22k miles, red, convertible, $7k reserve), a car they sell for $15k-$20k ish there. I put it on Craigslist for $9999 thinking it would sell immediately, but I got one visitor and the car just scared him terribly. Tough cars to sell, and an XJ12 is even tougher.
My 96 XJ12 was $900.

I'd say these 12's are at a low point price wise, not least because most people are terrified of them going wrong and costs involved. I suspect like series I xj6's now they will start to rise in value, not least due to scarcity....

The X300 V12 was the flagship model at the time. If you look at the flagship models from other manufacturers they often suffer the same fate: low resale due to people being afraid of 'em. Some cars are a lot easier to buy than they are to own.
The "up" side is that a Jag lover can get one helluva great car for a bargain price.

This car isn't aMoroccan red 95 , it's a 1996 black car identical to mine. Regarding value, it's what people want to pay which changes from year to year. Example: I have '73 IH Scout II which has shot up in value in the last three years, completely changing how I think about it, and now currently a sellable asset.

Ok I thought it was a long wheelbase 96 like mine....

Not sure on 95 XJ12 production numbers but 96's were 249. 180 ish in North America. I spect less than half still on the road. However many 95's made it here I'm sure half of them are no longer with us as runners. And values still remain flat. Some of my best may fetch 10 to 15 grand if I was inclined to sell. The rest would need allot of tlc to reach them values.

I think BaT is helping raise values of older Jaguars. I've seen some Bring the Cash. Although the cars are usually very nice, most of the time the high bid is way more than I thought it would be. It sure seems to be a seller's market for very good condition, low mileage cars. Recent: Silver 1995 XJ6 base, $8000. Last year: Black 1995 XJ6 base, 24k miles, $24,000. Really.
I think The Bay is a better market for buyers, IF the seller is responsive and realistic, and the bidding isn't ruined by shill bidders. It does get tiring to see the same cars listed over and over, even after a successful auction. And some are there for ages because they are just way overpriced.

BaT
There have been rumors of money laundering on BaT, the suspiciously overpriced LA 102k lS powered xjc being an example. No knowledge of how those transactions work though. I bought my xj12 from a CL listing found via searchtempest.com search filters (it was 600 miles away) and a lot of subsequent back and forth with enthusiast owner including video walk through. It was listed for months. I was actually looking for a motor donor for my 76 xjc project, but like the xj12 so much I decided to keep it. (I am still looking for a 95 or 96 v12 xjs for the xj coupe running gear btw if anyone knows of one, non running ok).
Regarding selling and buying, I hate to say it but FB marketplace now seems more active than craigslist. Ebay is ok if you are local but lots of horror stories about rust and bondo. Friend of mine bought a late 50's ranchero from LA that had lots of good chrome, so looked good in pictures, but the body appeared to have been in the ocean for some time when it arrived, disguised rusty, he had to part it out....

Then it's a good thing you Brought a Trailer! A successful rescue.

I had no idea they did that color, I like it! I confused it with the bright flamenco red which you can't miss...so I'm two for two, wrong year, wrong color, no starter motor. I need to sharpen up my act!

lol...no worries! I was confused when i looked it up and said red. But i do like the color, ive only one other in a wecking yard.

It is hard to see the "red" in Moroccan red, but eggplant is a good description of the color. Maybe plum, or purple. But none of those words are exotic enough to use as the proper Jaguar name!
Morocco Red should boost the asking price somewhat because it is so unique. We are also now at the point where the rarity of the V12 cars begins to add value to the car rather than take it away. Low mileage is especially in your favor, NV.
I've seen sellers who are shy about admitting that the Jaguar they are trying to sell has a V12 under the hood, for fear of scaring buyers off. That shouldn't happen much more with a very good condition, low mileage 305.

Hi all, in my initial post I said I recently acquired the XJ12, well I acquired due to my fathers passing. The reason I was asking for values was we weren't sure what we going to do with the XJ12. We have now decided to sell the car, I was thinking about asking 10K but just not sure what would be a fair price, I'm here to ask the experts! I do need to move it soon, as all assets are being sold and I do not have space to store the car. If anyone here on the forum is interested I can provide more details and pictures.
But here is the general information about the car. Its a 95 XJ12 with just a bit over 40,000 miles, it is Moroccan red with parchment interior, it has a factory sealed tool kit and a full set of service manuals. The car starts and runs fine, and tires were new when car was purchased. As you all know it does have some minor issues which is not uncommon for the age of the car. Any insight for the forum will be appreciated, and it would be valuable to hear what most of you think the best place would be to list the car. Thank you.

Have it professionally detailed, take 250+ photos including car on a lift (bribe a mechanic to use his), and put on bringatrailer.com. They get the best prices for unusual cars with lowish miles. $5k reserve, hope for $15k. eBay for selling cars is basically dead. The action has moved to bringatrailer.com. If bringatrailer.com rejects you, the problem is your photographs or lack thereof, or your reserve. Worst case scenario you consign the car with someone that has sold on bringatrailer before. If you’re in a rush, this not the best route because listings take months to get to the site.

My recommendation as suggested is take pictures and video of a professionally detailed car and create a dedicated website for it.
You are selling to a very small sub section of Jaguar collectors. Mot of the people here are ok with working on their cars and maintaining them but 99% of the world population is terrified of complex eurocars. Demonstrating it running and driving, lots of pictures helps enormously.
I would then post links to the website far and wide - someone in europe may well want it, the Germans and Dutch seem to really like them for example.
BaT is ok but you'll wait months, may get rejected and they will take their bite. It's a tire kickers paradise and I've heard there are occasions when the winning bidder backs out. Does it smog ok?
